Just wondering if there's any discussion about the 4D55 turbodiesel engine on this forum. I have an '84 D-50 with this engine, and just wondering if anyone else out there does too.

I have an 83 turbo diesel 4d55 any questions? I've been around them.

Does anyone have a source for parts for the 4d55 engine (gaskets, ie head, intake, exhaust)? I am trying to build one out of the two that I have but finding parts is a problem.

Try Rockauto.com. I had pretty good luck with them when I needed a new starter motor for mine. They have a whole bunch of engine rebuild parts listed.

Thanks for the web site. I'm still wondering if I wouldn't be better off parting out this POS and getting something else. What is your opinion on that?

Thanks,

Well, depends. Since there are so few small diesel trucks in the US, I would say it's worth keeping it. If you want a diesel truck. I saw a D-50 just like mine with a newly rebuilt engine sell for $5,000 or so on ebay this summer and I've seen nice toyota diesels going for over $6,000. Even real beat up old work trucks go for twice or three times bluebook if they've got a diesel and the drivetrain/engine is in good condition.

If you don't care about it being a diesel, an old SR5 toyota would be a bit cheaper to maintain just because they're easier to get parts for. Can't run em on biodiesel though, which is why I got mine.
