ignition switch on 1988 camrybudda-44 09-07-2005, 11:16 PM Can anyone tell me how to change the ignition switch (thing key goes in) on a 1988 Camry. I have taken the plastic coverings off the steering column but cannot find a way to remove the switch. There is nothing to push to release the switch as is shown in some service manuals. Thanks for any help you could give. JOET/CAMRY 09-10-2005, 11:21 PM Can anyone tell me how to change the ignition switch (thing key goes in) on a 1988 Camry. Hello budda-44, the part your trying to replace is not called the ignition switch. :nono: it is called a lock cylinder. in my haynes manual for 1983 - 1991 camrys THE PROCEDURE FOR LOCK CYLINDER REMOVAL IS #1 to remove the plastic cover over the steering colum #2 put the key in and turn it to accessory position #3 insert a pin/paper clip in the hole in the casting #4 pull the lock cylinder straight out and remove it from the steering column. installation is the reverse of removal. :smokin: hope this helps. good luck fixing your car.
