Hi,

Anyone know where the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located on a 1998 model Taurus with V-6 engine and automatic transmission?

I know it's somewhere on the transaxle but not exactly where altho I looked as best I could.

I'm trying to help a friend fix her car and the Haynes book doesn't tell you where the VSS is located. Nor have I found good info on the internet about it.

Thanks much!

I see that you list your Taurus as a DOHC. I think this one is a SOHC V-6 engine, so I wonder if there is difference in the VSS location between the two.

But I will look on the top of the trans.

Is yours towards the drivers or passenger side?

Thanks.

since certain transmissions were interchangeable between the DOHC and OHV, i believe its the same on both.

I haven't personally ever removed mine, this is the word from people who have, so I can't give you any visual clues on finding it.

Okay. Thanks much for the feedback.

I may be going over there today to look at this Taurus. I'll see if I can find the VSS. It is almost certainly the problem. Dead speedo. Stuck in first gear (limp mode).
