Spare tire under cargo area instead of behind the vehicle

The spare tire on my 2001 Honda Passport LX 2WD / Isuzu Rodeo is mounted on the rear cargo door and I'd like to mount it under the vehicle (like on the EX). I looked under the cargo area and I saw two brackets with 4 bolt holes which looks like it might hold an optional fixture for the spare tire, but I cant find anything in a search for aftermarket parts that would do the trick. Any thoughts on how to mount the spare tire under the cargo area?
Thanks in advance for any tips

if the mount is already there, all you would have to do is find bolts/ lug nuts to fit and throw your tire under there.

but remember, then you have the rear gate holder exposed. i don't know if that can be taken off or not. also ground clearance may be more of an issue if you go off road.

i've been searching the junks yards for and extra rim (and tire) to put it under the truck--this way i have 2 spares. anyone done this? other than weight--any draw backs?

The rear bumper is knotched to allow for the under-mount spare to fit, plus you'd need to get the winch assembly from a dealer or junk yard to raise/lower the spare and the associated tool kit. You could try to rig something yourself, but IMHO for a daily driver, it a safety thing & not worth it. You drop your spare on the fly & hurt/kill someone you are in deep doodoo.

Directory- Go go www.junkyarddog.com and search for an undervehicle spare tire assembly. I'm sure some junkyard will have one for sale at a reasonable price. Make sure you get the bracket and the winch assembly. You'll also need to make a hole in your back bumper to access the winch.

If you are hoping to do this to have a second spare tire for offroading, I would suggest against anything under the car. I mean wouldn't it suck if you had a flat and couldn't get enough clearance underneath the car to get out your spare? I believe you stated you wanted to get a roof rack. Your best bet would be to throw that spare on there.

Why do you need two spares?
Hell, why stop there, :thinkerg: get a roof rack and put two more spares on the roof, that way you'll have four. :evillol: :evillol:

actually i was just shooting an idea out there...but i think i'd just throw four heavy duty inner-tubes in the back and an elctric/ foot pump compressor and if necessary, make it a quick fix to get off the trail.

maybe an idea :dunno: -- making a tool box/ holding tray that fits the under truck spare well. don't know.

If you want to go really fancy, box up that aread underneath the car w/ sheet metal, then cut the floor of your trunk. You can hinge it and have a nice hide-away toolbox/sub box/whatever box
