ABS Sensor Removal

After finally ironing out all my ABS difficulties, I now have a new one. The FL sensor is bad.

I called Merlin and ordered a new sensor this morning and I hope to have it by Friday. I jacked up the truck yesterday to remove the old one. Man, what a PITA!! There are three brackets on this thing. One that holds it to the back of the spindle plate and two that hold the wiring and connector.

Removing the two screws from the top bracket wasn't too bad although the screws were seriously rusted. The middle bracket attaches to the upper control arm and there is no way to get a socket on the screw head (this should be against the law - damn those automotive design engineers - they design for easy assembly, not DISassembly). My trusty 12 mm Craftsman wrench is only about six inches long and I had lots of fun getting this long, really rusty screw out.

I took the hex cap head bolt out of the sensor head but the dang head won't come out of the hole. I guess it's rusted too. Anybody have any suggestions besides tearing the @#$% out of it getting it out?

Thanks!
