Lancer?

I'm just wondering how a Lancer would fare against my Grand Prix GT. I know a guy that likes to think he's a car expert, but he's just like me, he's learning his way through the process, except he doesn't realize it. Anyway, I doubt we'll race, so flame me for that if you want. Point being, I'm pretty sure its not an Evo, cause he traded in his 2000 Eclipse GT for it, so I doubt he had the money for an Evo. I'm figuring 140 hp will get crushed my GT, but I wanted some backup from you guys on what would happen. Like i said, not sure what year/engine, I just was wanting a blanket analysis on the non-Evo models. Thanks in advance.

What Lancer model is it? The base Lancer has around 120hp, if I remember right. Then there's the Ralliart model that has about 160hp or so.

How much power does your Grand Prix have? I know there's a model with 195hp, and then the supercharged one with 240hp. Is there a model between those two?

If the guy has a Ralliart, and you have the 195hp Grand Prix, it could be a close race. The Lancer is a lot smaller, so the power to weight ratios might not be that different.

A Ralliart five-speed with a decent driver should be able to match your Grand Prix; anything else short of an Evo should lose.

My GP is a 99 GT, so it has 200 hp, 225 ft/lbs torque. Like i said, I'm not sure what model Lancer it is, I can just assume its not an Evo. I'm sure its a manual too, because he likes his cars as "sporty" as possible. I'd post more, but I have to go to class.

The ES and OZ Lancers have 120hp, the Ralliart has 162hp. I have an '04 Lancer ES 5-speed and you'll beat the ES and OZ models soundly, the Ralliart on the other hand would probably at least match you if not beat you.

Thanks, thats what I figured. I don't know why the guy traded his V6 Eclipse for a I4 Lancer, doesn't make sense to me, maybe insurance...

Better gas mileage, lower insurance, four doors, less weight, and a slightly nicer interior.

Ya, that makes sense, but he's the racer type so it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Anyway, I found out its an ES, so I'll own it if he challenges me. My real worry are his friends, because most of them have 'Stangs, mostly V6's, but they are still a challenge. Anyway, thanks for the help.

I personally find the Ralliart racier than the Eclipse GT - it drives like a miniature Evo, and shares a lot of "non-performance" parts with it (the seats, the shifter, the steering, etc.)

yea you would destroy a lancer es plus the new eclipse was the girliest car of the year according to aol autos. it had more girl buyers relative to guy buyers than any other car.

I saw a thread on some other forum that said the Ralliart was good for around a 6.8 0-60 and quarters in the high 14's low 15's.

That sounds like bs to me, but i couldnt find any times for them. Anyone know? Also, what would the OZ do, because i see alot of them riced out and revving their engines, and i feel its my duty to put them in their place

id say no to that one thats what a 7th gen celica gts runs and it has 20 more horsepower and is about 500lbs lighter. it might run like 8 sec. 0-60 and mid to high 15s.

7th gen celicas have no torque though, the Ralliart has a 2.4L with a good bit of torque and is really well geared to use it.

i have a hard time believeing any lancer short of an evo will break out of the 15 second range. I'd say it'd be good for low 15's if driven very well.

I used to own a Ralliart, and I don't think there's any way it'd ever hitting 14's. Low 15's at best.
