I am looking to buy a used Subaru wagon for winter. With gas prices, can't hardly afford my Explorer. I have never owned a Subaru. I was told the 2.2 had less head gasket problems and was cheaper to work on and better mileage. Any one have any suggestions?? Also I know the Outback is only 2.5 How much difference is the ground clearance between a Legacy and an Outback? Does the 2.2 Legacy Wagons go good in snow??
Thanks!

Ok here goes, the EJ22 or is one of the most bullet proof engines Subaru ever made. The EARLY Phase I EJ25 or 2.5 liters in Subarus have head gasket problems from '93(?)-'99 was the Phase I after that the 2.5's are OK. The outback has only like 2 inches more clearance but rides rougher. Only worth it is you hit DEEP snow or off-road!
