cam position sensor problem

Im having problems with my E30 318is. When starting from cold the car runs very rough for approx 15mins. When I attempt to accelerate the power just dies. It has been tracked down to interference with the cam position sensor signal. We have not been able to establish whether this is mechanical or electrical interference. After 15 mins the car runs fine. Anyone any ideas what may be causing this.
