Drag Car Contest Entry: '77 Mustang II Super Stock

Was originally to be a 70-72 Pro Stock style build-up (ie. just before they went to tube frame.) Having realised the car I was gonna work with was a '77, that kind of ruined that. Super Stock through the 70s maintained the stock frame+stock body+no tubs+natural aspiration rule setup, so I'm going with that one. Looking at a '77 Mustang II, stock body, stock interior but gutted, 8 pt rollbar with a roof hoop, 351C smallblock with dual quads, and 10" 70s style tall slicks. Wish me luck, this'll be a lot kitbashing :uhoh:

awesome. can't wait to see this one develop.is that rear slick marked like you are going to have to cut it down? I think I have some of the slicks from the revell GTX if they would be a better match. let me know

Nah, the problem with the resin slicks is that the INSIDE diameter is too small for the resin WHEELS I bought for them! :( .... so I'm hogging them out with a dremel. I'll make em fit under the body somehow :)

Finished painting the body, painted the resin tires and got the wheels to fit right... it's gonna be a BITCH getting those things under the rear of the car.

Oh and sorry for the earlier pics not showing up, the image host is down right now...

Whew... getting a little work done anyway... basically I've had to kit bash damn near all of it, which I wasn't expecting... front clip from the kit was terrible, basic, and didn't fit the engine at all. So it's all been replaced with tube frame, which isn't exactly Super Stock, so I hope I'm not breaking the rules :uhoh: .... I was considering tubbing it, but the style in the 70s was to just cut the wheelwells a bit and if the tires stick out, so be it... so as you can see, this thing looks HARDCORE 70s :iceslolan ... slowly coming together...

Looks very nice. But are those backwheels in right places. That right wheel looks like the car is reversing.

looking nice, but shouldn't the wrinkles on the rear tire be the otherway around, as on your second pic the wheels would be turning clockwise, the wrinkles should face the other way (unless you want it to look like it's reversing ). Otherwise it's looking real authentic, the twotone's cool too.
