03 db-cab tacoma, 3.4L sluggishToobold31 08-23-2005, 05:22 PM Hey guys, well im new to this forum and would like some help with my 03 Db-Cab Tacoma with the 3.4L. My problem is this. When i accelerate from a dead stop and its shifting into 2nd you feel a hesitation. Plugs have been changed, and Maf sensor cleaned. Not missing at a sitting idle and have tried different brands of gas also. Another problem i am having is when the truck sits at night or for a very long period of time, it does not want to shift into 3rd untill it heats up. I spoke with toyota dealer and they said it was a safety thing w/trans fluid. Until warm it will not shift. Any help would be greatly appriciated...thanks Brian R. 08-25-2005, 12:27 AM The delayed shift into 3rd gear is normal. The hesitation when shifting is a puzzle. (See 5VZ-FE portion of Toyota Service manual at top of this forum). Do you have a "Check Engine" light showing? Air cleaner new? Ignition timing? (transmission in neutral, short TE1 and E1 of DLC1, should be 8-12 deg BTDC - without short, should be 3-19 deg BTDC) Clean EGR valve Clean throttle body and check function (Do not clean TPS or IAC valve) Check TPS adjustment Check IAC valve function Check fuel pressure Check ECT sensor for function Clean injectors (on or off engine) Clean MAF meter electrical connection vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
