98 chevy metro- no spark whats the problem?coopdavillage 08-21-2005, 07:46 PM this is my wifes car and the other day it died on the way home and i cant figure out what is wrong with it. luckily i have a 95 tracker and the ignition coil and ignition module are the same and in testing the ones on her car work fine. the problem is before the ignition control module but i cant figure out what it is. fuses are fine. any suggestions??? John Holst 09-28-2005, 08:17 PM Does this have the 3-cylinder engine, by chance? Does the engine sound "normal" when you try to start it. You may have a broken timing belt. coopdavillage 09-28-2005, 09:09 PM yes it does have a 3 cyl but the timeing belt is fine that has been checked and its a new on. the problem is im not getting spark to the ignition control module or coil. i was thinking its the ecm but i would have to take it to a dealer to find that out and thats not possible. spy1309 09-28-2005, 11:42 PM Check to see if the coil receives the 12V. coopdavillage 09-29-2005, 09:22 PM it doesnt. before the coil it has an ignition control module. i have tested both the coil and control module and they both work fine so the problem is before that but i am haveing a difficult time finding out whats before that other than the ecm. the car will turn over fine and the rotor turns which tells me the timing belt is fine. its just not getting the power to the coil area. luckily i have a 95 geo tracker which has the same coil and control module so i just switched them out and they worked fine in my car but mine wouldnt work in my wifes car either so its deffinately before that. any suggestions? spy1309 09-29-2005, 10:50 PM The 12V comes to the ignition coil directly from the fuse block , trace the wire it has to go directly to the fuse box I think it might be the one from the engine compartment. In the diagram from the Haynes manual the feed goes in the engine junction block to a 20A fuse witch is hot in both run and start. hambone35 11-24-2005, 06:48 PM I was wondering if you found out your problem. I have a Metro with the same problem but I wasn't able to get as much assisstance as I read that you have. Was going to junk the car but held on to it. Thinking about pulling it out this weekend and charging the battery. Help me out if you can. coopdavillage 11-26-2005, 07:21 PM none of the advice worked for me. i have tried getting the check engine light to flash the code but when i was trying i noticed i didnt have it. i beleive the ecm is bad but i havent had the money to replace it and if i do it will be a used one since the after market is 1800 and the dealer is 3000. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
