whining noise coming from front end2000 Tahoe Limited 08-21-2005, 04:47 AM i have a 94 cavalier 2.2 with 105k on it. i am getting a whining noise out of the passenger side front. it sounds like i have big tires on it, like a 4x4 or something. i am getting no vibrations and it stops doing it when i turn to the right. it gets louder with speed and the rpms dont change anything. where do i start Ryan066 08-21-2005, 10:00 AM check the wheel bearing. jack it up and check for lateral play. Grab the tire by the top and bottom. pull on the top and push on bottom and visa versa. If there is any play that is most 90% your problem. 2000 Tahoe Limited 08-21-2005, 06:47 PM i thought lateral play would indicate a bad ball joint Ryan066 08-21-2005, 09:08 PM i thought lateral play would indicate a bad ball joint if u stick a pry par between the control arm and the knuckle and pry up and down and there is movement that would indicate a bad ball joint and it would be lateral movement. but the way I explained it checks for play in the wheel bearing. It's prolly not called lateral movement. another quick check is to pull the tire in and out I believe. Tookie 08-22-2005, 08:19 PM Sounds like a bad wheel bearing. I bet the sound becomes real evident after you pass 25Mph on a straight? Interesting, how when I had a 94 ramped and spun the wheels, there was no indication from the bad bearing. After removal and inspection it behaved like a bad bearing. 97cavalier 09-09-2005, 10:41 PM Sounds like a bad wheel bearing. I bet the sound becomes real evident after you pass 25Mph on a straight? I had the same problem with a 97 cavalier. It was the wheel bearing. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
