I would say $6,500 is way too high for that car. More like 5k.

If you are going to get an RS, don't expect a whole lot of power out of it. I can't really think of any huge mechanical things to watch for except the usual shit with any car. My advice, don't buy it.

Another Cavy-DSM convert! Yeah wait out man... you can get a lot better deal than that. My advice: get at least a GST/TSI or a GSX/TSI AWD. I would get a 1g with a 6 bolt and build the shit out of it.

OT, but holy shit this thread title stressed me out! I work on expensive semiconductor equipment all night, and when I see "Mechanical Error" on the screen that usually means major damage and a long night ahead of me. Thanks for ruining my day off! :D

I'ma being willing to bet you 90% it seems like a good idea/deal now but you will be kicking yourself in the ass for not waiting for a gst/gsx etc. Before I had my eclipse I bought a civic because I was impatient and lost so much money in the process through all the buyings/sellings. Just hold out a little while longer :nono:

If at all possible test drive an earlier 95-96 gs-t or if your lucky gsx. They make alot more power, but you may be more interested in newer and less miles.

It all depends on what you want dude. You have to ask yourself: do I want speed/power, or do I just want a daily driver that gets good gas mileage and still looks damn sexy.

If you want the speed/power, wait for a gst/gsx/tsi/tsi awd. If you want the good gas mileage and not the power, go for the esi,rs,gs.

And on that rs you are talking about, a 99 with 79k on it, it isn't worth $6k even if it does have an intake and exhuast. :2cents:

Well it depends on where he lives, certain places have huge markups for say an eclipse or 240 you know

i live in maryland and u dont really come across any good cars with low mileage i mean im coming from a 2.2 cavalier with 115 hp anything is gonna feel faster and i mean some occasional street racing wont hurt i mean its gonna beat a lot on the street even stock around here u dont see a lot of highpowered cars and eventually i can put a lot of power into the car u know some cams, pullies, headers and some internals so if i want to later i can turbo it and at that point i have a hot ass lookin ride and a fast one...also where can i get little random parts like the front fog light pieces for an eclipse?? because the one im buying is missing thoughs

Ebay. Check often. Weird, hard to find parts are always being put up, you just have to look all the time to grab them.

Ebay is good. Also try google and type in replacement parts for your year eclipse.

once again...if you are looking for power which it seems like you are, you are walking into the wrong direction. Think about it like this: To make that car significantly faster(250 hrspwr etc.) you are most likely looking into 2000-3000 thousand more plus the 6 or 6 1/2 grand you are going to buy it for. So total around 8 grand.

Now on a gst/gsx you could find one(with enough searching) for around 4500-5000 dollards and make it faster than a RS-turbo for a heck a lot cheaper. So say you pick up a 96 gst for 4750 plus 1000 for new turbo exhaust and other misc. items. through this whole process you would save yourself about 2.5 grand and a hell of a lot of headaches. But then again this is your choice do as you please this is just my :2cents:

I hate you guys, lol.

On my hoopty RS, the only mechanical "problem" I've had so far is a slow leak in the valve cover gasket and the occasional lifter tick when starting the engine after its cold. So reliable daily driver? good gas mileage? HELL YES. racing? ehhh, not so much, even though it'll toss around some pesky ricers that have no business racing in the first place, I know that first hand. My car is like the ricer slayer, its sad actually....

Oh and btw, I originally bought this thing for $4100, 106k miles. She's now pushin 114k and I've ragged on the engine hard every once ina while, so far so good, no major problems. Great first car to like get used to the responsibilty of owning a car, and getting more seat experience when it comes to driving a manual and tendencies of FWD, but my 2nd car is DEFITENITELY gonna be turbo and RWD/AWD. Oh, and RSs don't come with fog lights stock, its gay as fuck. Anybody sellin some? :icon16:
