can u lower a 4wd? if so, will it hurt it

i dont use my 4wd and have been wantin to lower my trcuk ever since i got it. but my dad got it when it was new and didnt get a 2wd. so i was wondering if it will hurt my truck even if i dont use my 4wd? if so how far can i go?

You really only lower 4x4 2/4 without causing any complications. There's a guy on gmfullsize.com with a air bagged 4x4. I'm not really knowledgeable on 4x4's but i would think you could just remove the front shaft and dissable its capability altogether, but i really don't know.

Thanks for teh repley taht is al;l i was real ywantin ot lower it. i hope it doesn taffect it, i have always wanted it lowered i hate ridin so high. tahnk again

yeah i bet the frame has all the proper holes and whatnot to remove the axle and leaf springs and install an independent suspension from a junker 2x4 which is a lot easier to say than to do however lol.

I think you would be better off money wise selling the 4x4 and getting a 2x4 to lower. Guess it depends on what you can get for parting out the front end drivetrain.

yeah if you wanted to you can find many trucks in colorado or texas for cheap that look like they just came out the assembly plant. i bet theres tons of cheap 2x4's around there. a lot of dudes here in omaha, nebraska actually take them that they got in texas for a couple grand and add 3 or 4 grand to the price and sell em here cause we use salt and basically EVERY old truck older than 15 or 20 years is rusted out
