SCARY Car Problem (not Metro related)rruddfan21 08-13-2005, 12:17 AM hey guys, i know this is a metro forum, but my dad has a scary problem with his car, and i trust you guys on here. any help appreciated. my dad has a 94 cougar.....today while driving down road, he took foot off gas and car still accelerated. pedal was not depressed at all. even at around 80 MPH STILL continued to accelerate, regardless of braking, actually pressing gas pedal, etc.....obviously a scary situation that needs corrected. my guess is TPS.....no lights in dash. linkage and throttle blade are free to move. is tps sticking? any thoughts appreciated!!! serenity 08-13-2005, 02:11 AM Fords in the past have had a problem with linkage to the accelerator to stick even to the point of working fine when the car is not moving I recently had a ford escape re called because the cable linkage was spliting and would stick on ocation. most of the time it wasen't a problem but once and a while it would stick. Check it close clean lube it and good luck. S rruddfan21 08-13-2005, 12:21 PM i guess the idle control motor (not sure name or type for cougar) was boogered up, altering TPS. thanks guys. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
