I need some help! I've been given a 1992 Subaru Legacy. The motor is out of the car and all the ancillary parts are off the motor. I'm good at car repairs but trying to put a disassembled motor that I'm not familiar with back together is a bit beyond me. As you already know, Chilton's and Hayne's don't give you enough detail to put a motor with all it's hoses, vacuum lines, brackets, and external moving parts back together again.
I've got 9 children at home and a low paying job. If I could put this car together, it would be a tremendous help to my family. Can anyone tell me how I might be able to do this? Are there any manuals with more detail available? How would you guys out there go about doing this?

Thanks!

OK, I'll try to help. The first question i would ask is why is the motor out? If it needs work then you need to get it done or find a used replacement to reinstall. The Legacys like yours and mine(a 91) use the EJ22 engine-is almost bullet proof. The Chiltons and Haynes can help, as can looking at a car in a junkyard or one that is still assembled.

If you are just trying to reinstall the intact motor back into the car, it shouldn't be too bad-there are only about 3 or 4 vacuum lines and the electrical connectors should be pretty easy to match up to the harness. The board I usually use for my subes is

A real good bunch of people and have some online repair info. Legacies are in the "New generation of subarus" forum.

If you have specific questions let me know. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply! I've actually decided to take on another project...I'll post it in this forum. I'll check out the site you recommended.

BTW, I'm still working on the aforementioned engine as well, so if anyone else has input, feel free to post.
