engine reving

Just recently on my 1992 Escort, when I am on a freeway, engine idle is not dropping while decelerating. When I get off the freeway idle is too high. Later on when restarting all is fine, only happens when car is on freeway or moving over 60 MPH. Could this be a cable that needs lubricating or something electrical or mechanical?

My '93 does that some times too. I've never been able to figure it out. Only does it on long drives. The IAC (Idle Air Control) was replaced by the previous owner and it didn't help. I just learned to live with it. Doesn't do it that often. I turn the key off and then restart the engine and it idles normal for awhile. It's got me stumped :banghead:

Check the return spring on the throttle body.

This happened to me as well. I cleaned out the IAC (Even though it says not too) and it stopped. All I did was hold it on an angle, to prevent the cleaner from going into the cylinder. I used engine degreaser to clean it. It did take a couple of time to get it totaly clean but it does work. You may also have to use a little hobby brush to help remove the carbon. Just dont soak it too much and youlll be fine.

I think thats a good idea, also check/clean out the throttle body sounds like its gummed up.
