136,999 miles.

Is 25 lbs a substantial compression loss in one of the cylinders? Mechanic worked on car said that it isn't that bad, but enough to create some imbalance? BTW mechanic charged me $240 for a recent TUNE UP

Emissions test is this Thurs. Exhaust system is really noisy and car kinda stinks from exhaust pipe, which is lookin pretty black on the inside. Will I pass?

Also, noisy high pitched metal grating sound coming from front passenger side tire. Could it be my brake system? Does it while the car is in motion, stops when you are at low speeds. The disc (rotor?) part is rusted pretty badly.

I would really like to get a refurbished engine with low miles on it. Saw some on Ebay for $375. Would this work in my car?

Oh, and this engine is leaking oil too, she runs a little peppy after I get it back up to the full mark.

Thanks, these forums are helpful.

10% difference between highest and lowest cylinder is acceptable so if high is 180 then you could have one 18 psi lower and still be within limits. 25 is to much, you probably have a valve on the way out and its just gonna get worse. those engines you see for sale are not refurbished engines, they are engines shipped over from japan usually with less than 50k kilometers on them. should be able to find one cheaper but also make sure what warrenty is. should be at least a 6 month one or keep looking. as for brake moise there is a warning strip on the brakes when they get down to a certain point it starts making the noise to warn you to change the brake pads

How hard is it to replace the valve that is going to go out soon?
Should I look at just replacing the whole engine then?

Thanks for the reply

I am also getting some pretty bad engine vibration

Is there any way to stop this?

What could cause the engine to vibrate excessively?

engine vibration is probably because you have 1 bad cylinder so its not running evenly. you could take head off and have it rebuilt but by time you pay for the machine work and the labor its gonna be almost as expensive as replacing the engine. plus if you just rebuild the head the engine will usually start to smoke
