Has anyone had their transmission control flashed with a firmware update to fix the 1st to 2nd gear 'bump' problem? I called the dealer but they want to charge me 150 bucks just to check it out and may tell me that there is no fix for this. Basically when I start to excelerate then slow down and speed up my 1st to 2nd bumps. It is very annoying in traffic. I also will get shutter from 1st to 2nd from time to time with normal exceleration. This has been apparant since I bought the van with 69,000Km on it. I had the tranny flushed, filter changed and Merc V added.
Any info will help.

Seems to be a Ford problem. I dont know how to fix this, but my Windstar 95 does the same.

The AX4S/AX4N transaxles always seem to get confused with erratic accellerator pedal input. It seems to be the nature of this transaxle. My 2001 windstar gives a thumpy 2-3 shift on occation, kind of a grayhound bus quality shift :eek7: . I also sometimes get a shudder feeling taking off from a stop while turning the wheels and/or going up hill :uhoh: . Other than that, @ 55K miles and 2 trans services, I've never had a lick of mechanical trouble with the van! (knock on wood).
