'94 Honda Accord Blinking D4 Light

Hi to all,
I need your advice. I have a '94 Accord Lx. Yesterday went to grocery
store and noticed the D4 light flashing on the gear indicator panel.
This has never happened before. The car has 188,000 miles on it which I am the original owner. I am wondering if the blinking light means I have a major transmission repair coming or maybe if the transmission fluid is changed this will go away. All advice would be helpful especially from any of the experienced "elders" of the forum. Can we still drive the car or should we leave it parked in the garage.
Today is Monday August 8.
Thanks to All.

Is the blinking light on the shifting consule or is it in the dash cluster. I had a 1995 accord ex with 126,000 miles and I have never heard of that problem.

The light is blinking to make you aware of a tranny problem. You will have to pull the codes to determine exactly what the problem is. Being that you don't have a 96+, you will have to do this yourself or pay $70 at the dealership. It is simple, so I recommend doing it yourself.

It could be a cheap problem, it could be expensive, but you wont know until you pull the problem code.
Once you have the code, let us know what it is and we can further help. Also, I wouldn't drive it, as you don't know what the problem is, so it would be wiser to err on the side of caution.

To learn how to pull your own codes, go here and read everything:

If for some reason that isn’t sufficient for you, you may want to look at this:

Now you should have a code…and you probably want to know what the code means, so check out these pages. Between these 4 pages you will DEFINANTLY find your code and what part of the car it refers to.

I had the same problem about a year ago, also in a 94 Accord LX, D4 light blinking and rpms at about 1400 in idle, I left it parked for 2 days while I had money to go get a diagnostic, at the same time it needed a new battery, changed the battery to take it to dealer and the problem was gone, I might add the car was without a battery for 24+ hrs. ECU got reseted or something, but never have that problem again. At that time my car had about 180,000 miles.
