Well, I've been looking for a reason to work on my wrangler cars for some time now. And this is it. The Kit is the Revell Monogram re-release of the 87 Wrangler Car. here is my progress so far.

I cut out the grille opening to add a PE peice. I am currently working on the cage. I've rebuild the front halo bar so as to push the A-pillar bars out to meet the body more. I am in the process right now of building the A-pillar support bars. Let me know what you think!

I've gotten a little more work done. I managed to push the roll cage out to meet the body, around the window trim, and have the a-pillar support bars in place. I've also removed the trunk. Going to go FULL detail on t his one!

havn't heard anything about problems. I posted it first on the randyayers board. basically a nascar forum. and everyone raved about the old aerocoupes saying they are the best stock car kits produced.

I've completed the bracing for the rear window. Hopefully I will be able to atleast get the body in base yellow today!

time to bring this one back up around the top. got the body in paint. the color is rustoleum farm equipment yellow. It looks pretty good to me. Needs to be sanded and sprayed again. notice the hole for the fuel filler....as I type this, I forgot that I didn't drill the hole for the vent tube. that will need to be done. Let me know what you guys think.

alright. seven months later. I decide to get back to work on this guy. I finally got the momentum up to fisnish hiding the door panels. I was having a real tough time finding reference for the contingency sponsors on this car. For the front, I used a shot from the RCR museum of what is supposed to be the pass in the grass car. behind the wheel well, I used the 87 cluster from wetworks. Then infront of and behind the rear wheel well, I used what reference I could find, and then just sort of filled in. These colors are almost a spot on match. Now all I need to do Is drill the vent tube hole....still...lol. Anyone have any idea what clear could be sprayed over this paint and decal combo? the yellow is rustoleum farm implement paint, the blue is krylon, and the decals are wetworks. lol. Hopefully I can get this thing done in time for the contest. Only time will tell!

in the first picture is the original cluster for in front of the front wheel wells. The next one is of the modified cluster to match the picture from the RCR museum.

I find the decalling one of the more fun aspects of NASCAR builds. I dont know why, I just enjoy it! If anyone has some good reference shots or info on paint colors for the engine please....SHARE. lol I'm having trouble finding it. James do you have any ideas?

Normally the GM NASCARS are as follows : engine block and exhaust headers in steel, cylinder heads in gunmetal: and the intake manifold and the transmission in aluminium. And of course give things a light black or smoke wash to give depth. Hope this helps. Mal

well some progress before I leave! In the trunk area here is what I did. The bar that comes down and around in the rear, I hacked up the kit peice, keeping the hoop in the back. The bars that come down and connect to the floor of the trunk I replaced with brass rod so that they would connect all of the way down, without the big block they glued into. The fuel cell was totally redone as I mentioned before. Sprayed in gloss black and the plate is aluminum misted with tamiya smoke to darken it a little. The oil tank was modified slightly. I removed the cap from the top and all of the molded in lines and added a new filler neck, angled toward the rear. All that is left is to make a cap for it. I wont be using aftermarket braided line. As much as I would love to, I just can't afford it. I am going to put that money into some other details. I will be using craft line as recommended on the BAD site. along with fittings I will make myself. Also Pictured is the reworked front bar for the "Banjo Matthews" Chassis.

Got some work done on the trunk area. The fuel cell is in and the braided line is plumbed through the fuel filter. The oil tank is in and the lines coming off of it are attached. I have to sort out a couple of things as to where they go. All that is left is painting the oil tank cap, and adding the filler and overflow lines and this area is pretty much done. If anyone can comment on proper detail for any of the sub assemblies, please feel free to share!

well, with Summer 1 starting tomorrow, and me opting to take Cal III I am in a blitz to finish as much as possible today. With the help from a great diagrom from Matt Conte on the oil plumbing. I feel like I've got it all figured out and this is where I'm at.

The oil lines are supposed to pass back into the interior under the dash where they go through another bulkhead fititng. I will probably just terminate the lines and have them reappear in the engine bay at the fittings. They all need to be brushed with a dull coat to knock down the shine.

The engine is just about done, all that is left is some wiring and the lines. It is done with testors and MM paints. aluminum for the tail shaft, front cover/waterpump, and intake. The main body of the transmission and the engine were done in steel, the bellhousing in red, the valve covers were left the satin chrome from the kit, and everything else in flat black. I've been toying with the idea of hitting it with some dullcoat, but not sure yet. I think that once it is in the car it wont matter much.

Alright. Here is where it sits. I have all of the lines attached to the oil pump. I spent some time fitting and cleaning up the headers and getting them ready for paint. and I finally got around to making the the expansion tank/breather for the oil tank in the trunk. Hopefully Thursday I will get the time to detail the heades and hit the engine with a little smoke to help pick out the details. So far I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made. After a paypal payment clears my account I'll be ordering some PE goodies and hopefully getting this thing wrapped up. enjoy the pics

Silver elastic cord made by "Westrim Crafts" Item # 183. (good for coolant and oil lines) may need a shot of dullcoat added to tone down the shine.

Silver Elastic cord made by "Westrim Crafts" Item # 176 (Good for fuel & Flex Brake lines) May need to be hit with a little silver paint.

that is straight from the FAQ on badscaleracing.com

hows about some motorvation. I got around to painting the headers today. I threw WAY too much paint at it. but I like the look. They are still a little fragile, paint wise. pullies and belts are aluminum tubing and masking tape. I also hit the trans and block with some smoke. I made a mistake by already installing the engine crossmember, so I will have to cut that out and re install it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one. lol. here are the pics

Alright, not much in progress shots of the little things. But here it is, well on its way to finished! The rear end is in finally. Springs, shocks and driveshaft are all scratched from various materials, as are the pullies on the rear end pump. The rear and side windows are in. If you notice the aluminum tubing on the end of the axle, that is the "HUB" It fits inside of the rotor and holds it in place. I've decided that the right side's will be mounted and the lefts will be off, and it will sit on a jack. I also added the jack studs. Not much left for this one, I need to finish up the front glass, paint the chin spoiler, and the radiator cover in the front of the engine bay(would it be correct to add some sides to create a "tunnel" going to the front of the radiator?) I still need to finish up the dash as well. Is there anyone willing to print some guages for me? Maybe we can work a deal, shoot me a pm, my printer is on the blink. Mount the seat and the fire extinguisher, detail the wheels and tires, and finish out the brakes for the driver's side....hmmm......thats a mightly long list and I'm sure I forgot some stuff...oh well. Here are the pics, keep the comments coming!

A little more progress. This one is slow going. I've started a venture on ebay which has taken some of my modelling time for now. I've got the tires decalled and a pair of the wheels painted. the other side will be drilled for the hubs and what have you to be displayed with the wheels off, if time allows. I am in the process of putting together the Detail Master Harness kit for the seat. It is slow going, but gets easier with each peice.

As my deadline of July 1 approaches, things are getting narrowed down. The harness is in. The hood and trunk have the beginnings of hinges. I've yet to take care of the supports Not sure if I will do that before or after I mount the body. I've got some roll bar padding in. Here is a list of what is left:

Dash (still working on some images for the guages)
Steering wheel
Ignition box
Carb and fuel line assemblies
air cleaner
Radiator and oil cooler and lines
fuel filler and overflow
Getting the wheels tires and brakes finished up
Final detail (nuts and bolts)

I think that is about it.

It all depends on time my friend. I've got a calculus test on tuesday. I'm hoping to get time on thursday to finish it up. But there is not telling what will come up. I have never done the hinges before. So that will take some time. I think it is going to come down to how much trouble I decide to go through on the Dash and the guages. I want to do photoreduced guages with Aluminum bezels...did Dale run black face or white face guages? I cannot remember

white97ex

Here we go. Got the mesh in the front grille the hood pins are in, and The dash is well on its way. I printed some black face guages. As someone mentioned, the detail is lost quite a bit against the black background. Some higher res images would have been nice. I'm hoping to get this thing finished up this week. If anyone can give some comments on the hub area for the drivers side that would be great; how to drill the wheels and such. And maybe some tips on photographing the dash. lol

Well A bit more of an update. I got the dash mounted. All that is left in the interior is to get Dale's "Heat Shield" mounted. Then I can mount the body I beleive. Finish up the fuel supply, Fuel tank and some odds and ends and its done. I hope to have it finished tomorrow. Can someone comment on the fuel supply. The braided line should go to the fuel pump correct? and then braided line or hard line to the carb?
