Key broke off in a 92 Metrolivid4fish 08-07-2005, 01:10 PM Thanks Serenity, Well I found out you have to get pretty mid evil with the lock mechanism. The ignition plug rides inside of an insert witch is pressed into the complete housing, and fastened with little tiny pins. Once you remove the insert (with a hammer in chizel) the ignition plug is held in place by a snap ring on the far end! Once you remove the snap ring the plug comes out and you can extract the broken tip of the key. It works for now, but im going to the wrecking yard and purchasing a used steering column with a good ignition. As far as taking off the entire lock mecanism housing, thats another story it is mounted with rounded off headed bolts. I suppose if you took the steering column off and went to a vice you could probably cut grooves in the rounded off heads to use a screw driver on to remove, but personally i think the wrecking yard is the best solution and by far the cheapest im sure. kclark 11-30-2005, 05:16 PM Bought a set of key blanks from epay, had em cut, promptly got one jammed in the ignition, not sure of the reason. They would work fine in every lock and in every way until I went for a drive, turned off the motor and went to do that final cha-cha step to remove the key. Wouldn't do it. Took it to a locksmith where they worked their magic and had it out it 5 mins. $40 though. But didn't have to do all the pita of disassembly. Even gave me a set of keys cut on their own blanks for my trouble. They work fine. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
