Front End Noise HELP!marchese299 08-07-2005, 01:59 AM I have a 97 ZJ V8 all time 4wd. I have developed a noise in the front end that starts around 50 mph. The sound only happens when I let off the throttle. It is a wierd sound kind of a grind/whine. I have had new bearings, and new CV shafts put into the axle and the sound is still present. Could this be an alignment problem or ring and pinion? Cam7 08-08-2005, 05:15 AM Sound like the Pinion Bearing. The noise can be heard mostly above 50 sometimes lower mph and when letting off the throttle. cmax0917 08-08-2005, 08:36 PM I had a wine that dame from the front end of my 97 JGC and it was very pronounced, the faster u went especialy over 50...it turned out to be the differential...THAT SUCKED! needless to say Ron68 08-09-2005, 01:11 AM Had the same noise in my 97. It was the front diffential carrier bearings. The dealer will stiff you on the repair. He said three days and $1200. I went to a rear end shop (Randy's Ring and Pinion) and they did the job in one day for $529. dksob81 08-10-2005, 08:33 AM Well it seems I have a similar noise might be normal, I dunno. When going 50 MPH or above and pressing on the gas pedal I hear a whirring/woooo sound coming from the front end if I just give it a little bit of gas enough to keep moving down the highway nothing no noise, but if I give it a litltle bit more gas to pick up some speed (around 300 RPMS higher) I hear the whirring. I htink the noise has always been there since I have had the jeep (almost 2 years) never worried about it until I read this thread. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or is there a problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
