Oil Sending Unit on 96 GC Limited V8 5.2Lshintan17 08-06-2005, 04:50 PM The oil pressure guage hasn't been working for almost a year. It just stays at zero. It used to be fluctuating all the time like when the truck was the complete stop, it went down to zero and when I gave it a gas, it went up to like 30-40 psi. I took the truck to the dealer and they told me it was a bad sending unit, so I let them replace it and still not workng. They told me it's probably the wire and they would charge me $80 for just cleaning up the damn wire, so I told them not to do it. I was thinking it could be a bad wire because the oil was leaking so bad before replacing the unit. Is it possible to change the wire? Or does anyone have any suggestions what to do? I tried to clean up the wire, but it didnt' seem working at all. Please, help me!!! dksob81 08-06-2005, 11:43 PM it could be a bad wire, it could also be a blocked passage way for the Oil to travel (meaning there no oil getting to the Sending Unit for it to measure pressure). shintan17 08-07-2005, 12:28 AM Is it possible to replace the wire? Do they sell at the parts shop? dksob81 08-07-2005, 12:35 AM Yes it is possible to replace tje wire, it would be alot of work tho. that one wire runs all the way to Oil Prssure Guage in the dash. annointedprincess 10-29-2005, 12:42 PM I have a question... My jeep is doing the same thing. The oil pressure will fluctuate until I stop at a stop sign or a stop light and then it will drop to zero. It only does it when it gets up to temperature after 10-20 min or so of driving. I see no signs of oil leak we replaced the pump. Shintan17 Did yours go to 0 all the time at stops or did temperature have anything to do with it? We replaced the oil pump. I am thinking of the sending unit... or do I need a new engine? The oil changes have been up to date and the car has always the right amount of oil and it has never overheated during the last 2 years I have owned it. Any suggestions? THanks! tashit 10-31-2005, 06:01 PM Princess, my '01 did something similar. After the engine warmed up it would drop to zero when I let off the gas and would climb back up to pressure when I gave it gas (although mine was not fluctuating). I replaced the sending unit and it has worked great ever since. It's a cheap and easy fix. shintan17 12-07-2005, 02:25 PM I have a question... My jeep is doing the same thing. Mine was fluctuating all the time and went down to zero at the complete stop. It was almost like the guage was dancing with the tacho meter! I still haven't fixed the problem yet, and I have no clue how to. Already replaced the sending unit, and been thinking it could be the wire. Just annoying when you drive and see "CHECK THE GUAGE" sign on all the time. Maybe the guage itself has gone south..not sure. dksob81 12-07-2005, 05:27 PM try playing around with the wires right above the PCM (round connector). these are the wires that go from the PCM to the instrument Panel. shintan17 12-07-2005, 07:02 PM try playing around with the wires right above the PCM (round connector). these are the wires that go from the PCM to the instrument Panel. Where is the PCM located? dksob81 12-07-2005, 09:38 PM PCM is located on the passengerside firewall in the engine compartment, right behind the Coolant Overflow bottle. If you look right above the PCM there is a circle connecotr play around with those wires, maybe check to make sure the bolt that holds it together is tight. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
