I find a small leak on my front differential, so I wanna replace the gasket.
I am wondering if it does have a gasket, not the RTV.
The NAPA and Autozone guys told me that there was only RTV, no real gasket...

Thanks for help

There is no gasket that I know of. use some BLACK RTV Sealant (it really doesn't matter the color they will all work just as good, but the BLACK will be less notiveable).

Many thanks for your reply

I checked the Hanyes book. It does mention the RTV and gasket. It says "put a thin layer RTV, then put on the new gasket..."
I am confused about this...

The FSM (Factory Service Manual) for my 94 ZJ, Says to apply a bead of MOPAR Silicone Rubber Sealant on the housing cover. ALLOW THE SEALANT TO CURE FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT INSTALL THE COVER WITHIN 5 MINUES AFTER APPLYING BEAD.

There was NO mention of a GASKET.

I looked through the haynes and I saw it did say to apply a thin layer of Silicone sealant to the cover flange and press the new gasket into position on the cover.

Just use the RTV Sealant it will work just fine. I do not believe anyone has a gasket for this. It's not mentioned in the FSM so I believe there is no need for it, I used RTV When I changed the fluid in my diffs a few months ago and I have no leaking from the cover.

Just make sure the surfaces are clean and smooth before starting the reassembly.

The rtv is also available now in a can that just press the nozzle and it comes out a lot easier than the tubes. I've used both and use only the cans now. there are no gaskets available that i know of. the rtv seems to work better anyway.
