My 2000 Dodge Status has a problem with intermittnet cruise. Sometimes it will work for weeks at a time, other times when the set or resume buttons are pushed the system will shut off. I have had some luck turning on the cruise, pushing the set button down completely and wiggling it. About 50% of the time, pushing the set button this way will set the cruise. About 50% of the time, when the set or resume buttons are pushed and wiggled, the system will not set and the cruise light on the dash will stop being lit. If the light shuts off, the system won't come back on and the light will not illuminate until I shut the car off and restart it.

The cruise has worked on long road trips for over 80 miles at a time. Sometimes it will be working fine and simply shut off on its own. Sometimes, it will be working fine, but if I have to brake, I am unable to reset or resume using the cruise.

I have read that it could be a faulty brake switch, but I'm wondering if this could be a faulty set and resume switch that would sometimes cause a short and shut the system down. If it is the set and resume switch, does anyone know if it is easy to replace? I am a very mechanical guy, but have never dealt with a steering wheel that has an airbag in it before.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

your suspicion is correct, you could have a faulty set/resume switch. I can't recall, but I believe you have the steering wheel that has the two switches for on/off and set/resume & cancel on another switch on the opposite side of the steering wheel. If that is the case, you'll need a T-20 torx socket and unscrew the cruise control switch from the steering wheel. The best place to find a replacement one is a junkyard, don't bother the dealer, it goes for $48.78 for just one switch and you can get it from a junkyard for less than $5.

make Sure You Unplug The Battery And Leave It Unpluged For At Least 15 Minutes Before You Start Taking A Steering Wheel Apart With A Air Bag In It I Had A Problem With That On My Last Car And I Spent A Week In The Hospital!!!!!!!!!!!
