First of all I am new here and have been digging around here and a few other sites looking for error codes and how to even get them up.

Please do not reference Haynes as I do have one (the pin out they show does not even match what I have in mine) and it has proven quite useless in this area. I have heard many stories about this particular year model having many different configurations.

Also if anybody has experienced problems with their headlights burning up connections in the cotrol circuit assitance in this area would also be greatly appreciated.

OBD II is a 16-pin plug-in and all manufacturers kept this standard.
Auto Zone has scan tool readers from $89. up.
Harbor Freight Tools has a generic reader for $39.

are you sure it is an OBD II?
if you have the old design GM OBD-I in the vehicle, a paperclip will jumper the two leads you need to "flash" the engine light, and perform a diagnostic read.
is it possible to take a pic and post, or even a sketch of what you're looking at; if it isn't OBD compliant?

as far as headlights: are they still original numbers, or did someone try putting in higher watt output ones or HIDs?

The only thing under the dash that resembles a diagnostic plug is a 12 position female plug that only has pins in 3 positions (two are directly across from one another while the other is at the oposit end of the block). The plug is located directly below the steering column in a position that does not require the removal of any panels. I have also looked at the fuse block which has a few open sockets, but no pins.

As for the head lights, and everything else on the vehicle, they are completely stock. This has been a problem since just before it fell out of warranty. The control arm was replaced as well as the control block while under warranty and it began to fail about a year after it was replaced. I did make one butcher repair on the control circuit coming from the turn signal/head light control arm because a few of the pins in the plug had burned soon to be followed by the pins on the control block under the dash (this was not due to my unsightly repair). It is acting as though one or two wires may have a bad spot in their insulation and taking the path of least resistance to ground although it is not enough current to blow the fuse.

Sorry for no pictures, but I can get some up tomorrow if my description is not detailed enough.

I do not believe OBD-II came out until 96.
