1994 lasabre cooling fan and a/c controlsRobert Morris 07-28-2005, 09:59 PM I have been working on my 94 lasabre to fix several problems, had overheating trub, replaced thermostat and throttle body gasket when I saw it was leaking. Also replaced all vacuum tubing, almost all was cracked or split. Currently trying to get the cooling fans to come on, they will not engage with or without a/c or heater on. Jumped directly to battery they work. Cooling fan fuse under hood good. I have replace the tempature sensor on the throttle body, others have suggested the relay, but the haynes book nor owners manual give any clue as to what or where it is, there are 8 relays on firewall are one of those it and if so which one. the other trouble is the internal contols for the a/c, it seems to be stuck in the defrsot setting, the lights change but the air continues to come from top. Have problem in the past like it was posessed and would change from defrost to a/c by itself. before i changed the vacuum hoses and temp sensor it was blowing right, check to make sure hose placement was right at a lose beyond that. help please bob HotZ28 07-29-2005, 12:23 AM You have two relays for the cooling fans. One is controlled by turning on the A/C and the other by the CTS. One or the other should work; it is hard to believe both relays are bad. If neither will operate even after switching relays, you could have a PCM driver problem. One fan should run if you disconnect the wires going to the CTS, that would be the default mode, if the CTS fails. (Better to have fan run, than not) A/C blowing out defrost vent; Are you sure you put the check valve back in the right direction on the vacuum line going to the reservoir at the firewall. If that is right, you have a blender door actuator problem. Defrost is the default mode. Robert Morris 07-29-2005, 04:34 AM Tks will try in the morn, BOB Gocart879 07-29-2005, 08:44 AM HOTZ28, my 89' has the fan in front and it seems it only turns on when i click the AC on. where are the relays for my vehicle? and which one is controlled by the CTS. yogi_123rd 07-29-2005, 04:27 PM The two radiator fan relays are located on the driver side inside fender wall. You will see the wiring harness going to the fan. They are mounted side by side and the one closest to you should be the one for the slow speed circuit (AC) , the further one is for the high speed circuit (hot engine). The relays are the same part number and they are interchangable. Robert Morris 07-30-2005, 12:23 AM HotZ28 the advice you gave on the 94 lesabre cooling fan and a/c control was great, ended up removing the temp sensor connector and that has both fans blowing. The a/c control info took me to the right ballpark, found very little vacuum going to the accumalator, found the output from the manifold pressure unit was clogged, old tubing was stuck up in it. a/c controls work great. got all that done, went to start it and it wont turn over, just the click under the hood, man this is getn on my nerve. the dash bord light come on and go out including security with the exception of service eng soon. fans and radio work, lights and etc, battery is less than 2 weeks old tried to jump the selinoid just get weak sparks battery at 12.6v, putting a slow charge this evening but dont think will do much, as is did try and jump it with no luck. Thank for help, please help again HotZ28 07-30-2005, 12:58 AM First, check your battery connections for cleanliness and contact. It sounds like you have low voltage, bad ground, dragging starter, or a bad solenoid. Robert Morris 07-30-2005, 05:32 PM Hotz28, recharged battery to @ 13 v today, checked terminals and cleaned, voltage good to selinoid and it clicks as to engage when the key is turned, starter has been replaced but still same symtoms remain all have checked 60a fuse under hood and 10 under steering column. checking for seizure, put the car in drive it will roll, but should it roll in reverse, moves quite freely, help sommmme more...bob HotZ28 07-30-2005, 06:39 PM "starter has been replaced but still same symtoms remain" I assume you installed a new solenoid with the new starter? Check cable connections at starter. Something (very simple), is not allowing the starter to get full amperage from the battery. :banghead: Robert Morris 07-30-2005, 07:56 PM checked voltage at selinoid, 12.8 on the lead from the battery, when the key is turned there is 9,5 volts on the purple wire i can see the starter gear engage but does not turn the fly wheel what problems will a bad security key show, will it even allow the starter to engage?????? HotZ28 07-30-2005, 11:23 PM Robert Morris 07-30-2005, 11:48 PM Jump to the the site you posted, all sounds to the t, with the exception the security light does go out in about 2 or 3 secs. According to the reading it should indicate the vats was working properly, may there still be a problem with the ignition since i am only getting 9.5 at the selinoid when key turned or would it be good shot to try the bypass for s&gs. HotZ28 07-31-2005, 12:13 AM You should have a full battery voltage to the purple wire on the solenoid. Put car in park, & run a fused jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to the purple wire on the solenoid. It should engage the starter into the flywheel and turn over. Your VATS system may be ok however, you may not be transfering full voltage through the switch. Robert Morris 07-31-2005, 01:09 AM tks hotz, will try in the a.m vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
