Rear wiper moter replacementtfrasc 07-28-2005, 08:32 PM 2000 JGC Ltd. rear wiper moves about 1 foot and stops. Sometimes it never returns after turning it off. Took an initial look at replacing the motor and it looks like I have to take the whole interior panel out. Is this an easy job or more than I want to get in to? dksob81 07-28-2005, 09:21 PM I had this same problem in my 94. Yes you do have to remoe the whole panel (pretty easy). But you might not have to replace the motor, the motor prolly siezed on the bushing. The shaft that turns the wiper arms rides on a metal bushing and after time it will seize, just remove the motor, then remove the shaft and lightly sand the shaft and the bushing then use some grease on it and it should work fine. I have a '98 GCL with a seized motor, and I have it tore out right now, but how do you get the shaft out? Do you just pull it out? tfrasc 12-13-2005, 09:26 PM If I recall, you have to take the back plate off. There is some (un)soldering to do for two connections. Here's where I made my mistake. I hammered the shaft through the back because it was so seized. If yours doesn't pull out the back, put a nut on the shaft and hammer it out. I stripped the threads and had to re-chase them. Luckily got it so I could get the washer arm nut back on....but it took awhile. Be sure to mark where the gear is so that it rotates correctly when you put it back together. Otherwise....it's been working fine for me. BenBB 12-14-2005, 12:29 PM I have a '96 GC, and the rear wiper motor on mine broke too. How can you tell if its just seized or broke, because the motors are like 70 bucks. Id rather fix it myself and save some money. Thanks vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
