My 1989 626LX is idling at about 450rpm or sometimes lower. I am not getting a check engine light unless it drops below about 350rpm. Can anyone tell me how or if you can pull codes out of the ecu, or if anyone has had this problem before and know of a fix.

Removed, cleaned and reinstalled throttle body & air bypass solenoid. Seemed to fix the problem.

Thought I had her fixed, but it ran ok for about a day after cleaning the throttle body. Now it is back to running about 500rpm. Does anyone have a wiring manual that covers a 1989, that could copy and fax me the diagrams. I have a Haynes manual, but the wiring diagrams in the back seem to be for older than 1989. The wiring to the EGI does not match color wise or pin location in the sockets. The Haynes manual gives voltages at pin locations, but the pin locations do not match with my EGI. Checked the air bypass solenoid and it actuates when I apply power to it. The 89 air bypass solenoid is mounted directly on the throttle body. Mass air flow sensor seems to check out good, as does the throttle position sensor.

I've found a fix to 626 performance problems that may help. I had a lean error code and my 4 cyl was dong the hesitation thing when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I had run 3 tanks of injector cleanor with little improvement.

$60 for diagnostics told me I needed a MAF sensor. Here's my fix;

- Dsiconnect negative side of battery
- Get a T20 "tamper proof" torx bit - $2.99 at Autozone
- Disconnect the leads and remove the MAF - it's located between the air filter and the throttle body. Be careful - this is an instrument.
- Get a good magnefying glass and inspect the device. You'll see two litle sensors soldered to posts. Make sure the sensors are clean. Mine were all cruded up.
- If dirty, spray litely and then blow dry with compressed air (gently). Check it again and repeat the cleaning if necessary.
- Check the conections to the little posts. Are they still attached? Yes - good!
- Reassemble & hook up leads - gently again.
- Reconnect battery cable.
- Drive off into the sunset with a smile on your face. You just saved 400 clams.
