I'm trying to fill the a/c system on my 2000 4.7 L grand cherokee and the compressor won't stay on.

When I turn the a/c on high and go to fill the system the compressor keeps switching on and off so the system doesn't suck up the refrigerant.

I was wondering if anyone has refilled their a/c sucessfully or has had this same problem.

never had this problem but the fix is fairly easy, remove your compressor relay under the hood, jump the wires to where your compressor relay goes to make it run all the time and ther u go!good luck!

If there is no refrigerant or oil in the system it could damage the compressor if you bypass the switch... that's why the clutch isn't engaging continuously.
Turn the AC on high with the windows down... charge it from the low pressure port to 38-47 psi @90 deg. F
As you start charging the clutch will start to cycle on and off...when fully charged it should cycle/operate normally.
