When I bought it new, the oil pressure would be about 45-50 lbs. while driving. Now that I have 102,000, the pressure at cold will be at 60 lbs and when I drive it a few miles, the oil pressure will be at 44-48 lbs. However, at idle the oil pressure drops down to 35-38 lbs. I have some concern about this low at idle. But I suppose with that many miles, the law of average goes into effect. But it doesn't use any oil. maintainin76 07-30-2005, 05:03 PM I own a '96 Tahoe 2WD with the 5.7 V8, Cooper.. When I bought it new, the oil pressure would be about 45-50 lbs. while driving. The minimum is like 6 or 7 lbs per 1000 psi. 35-38 lbs at idle is plenty. Mine is like 20 lbs at idle and around 40 at cruising speed. Everything you and the original poster described is normal. harborview 08-01-2005, 12:44 AM mine idles at 12 and runs at 22 on the road. called the dealer and he said the sensor could be going bad. never noticed change in the performance. makes you worry though.
