My alternator recently died on me and I took it upon myself to replace it. The install went fine with what seemed like no major problems, but then about 2 weeks later the alternator died again. I pulled the alternator out again and the wire that connects to the back of the alternator with the little bolt looks like it got fried somehow. It is completely melted, is it possible I installed something wrong?? The whole thing looked relatively simple.

well...power steering fluid leaking on your alternator seems to be popular with the Z32's. this could be the reasoning behind the alternator frying itself after only 2 weeks. you could have developed a leak right on top of it which could have fried the harness and/or alternator. i would first test the harness to make sure it is receiving power than if it seems ok...i would go ahead and replace the alternator again. find where it is leaking if it is and maybe take some scrap metal and bolt a shield on top of the alternator to keep anything from dripping on it.

another possibility is you could have possibly just received a faulty alternator. where did you buy it? any local parts store like auto-zone carries a lifetime warranty on all starters and alternators.

It sounds like you're grounding out somewhere... Good luck man, you're going to need it.
