I have had my Jeep for a few years. Last summer the CD changer would quit working in the summer. Error message after selecting to change CD etc. Very occassionally playing without error message. It started working again and did so all winter long. In the colder weather. Now that it is summer it is not working again. It's totally heat related. Any ideas from the experts out there? it will not play at all this summer. It's the 10 changer mounted in the back of the vehicle.

Welcome to AF Julie...

You could pack it in ice. Sounds like a joke but try cooling it down with some cold packs like for a sprain when it errors out again. See how that makes it respond.

Is there a cooling fan or duct on the changer??? is it blocked by something??

Other wise it likely need a repair shop to look at it.

I did think of that! I put the clip in the freezer and had no luck. I was on the right track though. I'm glad someone else suggested this--it sounds so odd, but the heat back there I'm sure is high, just from sitting in the baking sun day after day. My thought though for the long term was, I'd have to do this every time--- what a pain! I will try it and look for a air duct. I found the directions for removing the unit on another site and will do that before i take for repair. There is a changer on EBAY for $65 if all else fails. I'd like to take a stab at gettting this working again first though!

I did try the ice pack on top of the unit. It worked!! Took a bit of time to cool it down, but in my errand running on way home, I tried it and the thing started working. That's the latest.
