I have a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Lim 4x4

when I go to stop I feel a grinding when I hit 0-5 mph. It is like I have to push the brake a little further in to get it to stop.

Has anyone experienced this?

What is the brake repair history??

When the brakes are cool, reach in where you can feel the rotor surface (inside and outside) to see if the surface is scored by worn pads.

If not scored, then it is likely a friction change in the pad/rotor due to heat or contamination.

Pull al 4 wheels and visually inspect the brakes for wear and "rocks or pebbles". Some times a stone gets stuck in the rotor/caliper.

Could also be the abs activating. Are you familiar with ABS operation?? The chatter of the abs sounds like a kind of grinding and the pedal will "travel" further while it activates......

I am thinking that maybe it might be a abs sensor. It does seem like the abs is kicking on when I try to start. I just inspected the toner ring (I think that is the name, it is a round gear with teeth) and it looks in good shape. All the brakes were replaced back in may so that could not be it.

Wonder how much the sensors are and wonder if they are easy to replace.

the sensors probably just needs cleaned, sensor and ring gear.
