85 300z info...head swap is it possible?!?!?beige01pathfinder 07-25-2005, 08:44 PM i just bought a 85 300zx non turbo, great condition no rust, great body. running great with 140000 miles for $1500. all the car needs is belts and hoses, minor stuff. i was wondering whats the stock numbers for that car...hp torque, 0-60, 1/4 mile. also i noticed the older vg30's had single overhead cams (like mine) could i buy the heads off of the newer 300z's witch are dohc and do a swap. if its possible what would it require? k3smostwanted 07-27-2005, 01:01 AM i just bought a 85 300zx non turbo, great condition no rust, great body. running great with 140000 miles for $1500. all the car needs is belts and hoses, minor stuff. i was wondering whats the stock numbers for that car...hp torque, 0-60, 1/4 mile. also i noticed the older vg30's had single overhead cams (like mine) could i buy the heads off of the newer 300z's witch are dohc and do a swap. if its possible what would it require? never heard of anyone doing it...i have heard of people doing this kind of swap to mustangs and such. i would imagine that the VG30DE and VG30E blocks are pertty different when it comes to bolting on heads. check out Z31.com, you may find more information over there. longlivetheZ 07-30-2005, 04:16 PM I highly doubt it would be possible...and if it is, it would probably require a lot of fab work and stuff. stephenp 07-30-2005, 09:00 PM i think it would be possible but easier to swap in the whole motor and from swapping whole motor you gain compression by .5 to 1 in either the boost or unboosted motor and also you would need the ecu also and i think it would have to be the 87 or newwer they have more bosses in them then the olde ones but on the compression note if you were to run abnormally hi9gh boost and you had the turbo pistons you may want to use the older turbo pistons to compensate for it but i would advise using the newer ones and alos the ecu is required unless you get the years of nonvariable valve timing.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
