I think it would be pretty close, with the upper hand to the WS6. At that point though alot more will depend on who is driving.

I'll give my nod to the WS6. Both cars are slightly underrated from the factory, but I believe the LS1 just has a bit more top-end power, and the pushrod setup gives it a low-end torque advantage as well. It's also about a hundred pounds lighter, and it's got an additional gear to work with. The aerodynamics are even better on the WS6, which will certainly come into play on cars with this much horsepower.

I'll have to disagree. I think the LS-1 has the torque advantage hands down. I think though the 4.6 just has it beat when both engines are running around red line.

I think both cars are so close thats its really hard to say. A drivers race if you ask me. The only reason the LS1 has the torque advantage is displacement. OHC (especially considering the new 4.6 has VVT) will usually create more torque/hp throughout the powerband vs. a pushrod assuming they are both equal. The valve tunning capabilities are just better.

12 seconds certainly isn't typical for those cars, this is not to say they aren't fast.

It may not be typical, but you may be surprised at the rate at which it occurs. You gotta take into account that these cars are usually putting out 350hp - 360hp. It's in no way a knock on the Mustang, I like Mustangs as much as anyone else, but I just don't see the new Mustang beating an LS1 F-Body stock for stock.

I wasn't taking it as a knock on mustangs, I know the 05 dosn't have quite the power that some of the LS1 powered Fbodys had. However an Fbody running a 12 is really under very ideal conditions with a fluke of a car to begin with. I know it has happened that they have run a 12, but the vast majority of them will run anywhere from a high 13 to a low 13, I have seen them run all over the 13s. I would be willing to accept that all of them are capable of a mid 13 at least.

arent the new mustangs only high 13 sec cars? they have 300hp but theyre heavy. the ls1s have 350hp like super said, but they weigh a couple hundred pounds less. ls1 takes it with ease.

If you pick up the latest MotorTrend they got one to do the 1/4 in 13.5. With that it's up there with the SS because I've gone to sites and seen stock '02 SS times and many of them were around 13.5. The thing is the WS6 is a bit faster than the SS Camaro.

Actually, it was 13.9@100.8mph. How is the WS6 faster than the SS?? They have identical engines....

Ah, but there is so much more to quarter mile times than engine output. In this case, it's because the WS6 has superior aerodynamics than the SS, thus creating a lower drag coefficient, meaning that it's fighting against less air resistance, which in turn enables it to push harder the faster it goes.

:eek7: You need to look again there. I got it and I can tell you, page 56, right hand side beside the Charger.

1/4 Mile: 13.5 @ 103.6 mph

As for the WS6, it has more goodies on the engine than the SS if I'm not mistaken.

^^^Smart guy :grinyes: ....i think that the WS6 would beat it by a half of a second, and half of a second IMO is alot if time in the 1/4 mile.... :sunglasse

I'd say in everything being in a equal and perfect world the WS6 would have it by a couple tenths.

But they are close enough most real races will come down to the driver.

High 12's LS1's happen but it is the exception very very far from the norm. Mid to low 13's are the norm.
