I currently have a 280ZX that refuses to start. it will crank over for forever, and when i take the spark plugs out they have fuel on them, so i think it's not getting spark. the water pump blew on me, so I replaced that twice, and it started up, I drove it, and it puffed some black smoke out the tailpipe and quit, haven't got it to start since. I've replaced the cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and coil, anyone have any ideas? Then I just bought a '86 300zx NA for 500 bucks (beautiful car, no rust) that runs, but dies if you let off the gas. the guy said he replaced all the ignition components and tried changing the timing, but it had no effect. I'm kinda lost. Any advice would be great.

as for the 280zxT not starting...it sounds like something internal or the timing is very off. i cant really tell you much else on that...

the 300zx, hmmm...TPS sensor? basically it sounds like a sensor malfuntion. check the ECU for codes...

it could also still be timing...maybe he did not adjust it correctly or he lied to you. ya never know...

throttle position on these babies only is off throttle full throttle or in between offf throttle is only used during idle full throttle only on autos to downshift and it has no conection at any where in between
if you leave it disconnected the only thing that will happen is slightly high idle
is it rough try the timing if its smooth try and adjust the idle air on the throttle bodie see if you cant get it to idle that way.
good luck

Sounds like the timing is way off to me. The guy said something about the timing belt being stretched, is that possible? and if it is, how hard is it to replace the timing belt. looks like a pain in the butt to me....
