I have a 2000 JGC 4.0 V6. It has been overheating lately. I took it to my mechanic and he told me that the fan is running fine, but only running on low speed. He suggested taking the electric fan off and replacing it with a clutch type. My jeep has the threads already in place to add a clutch type fan. Anybody see a problem with doing this? Thanks.

The electric fan should be more efficient, both fuel and cooling wise. If you install the clutch fan will you have the correct shroud to maintain fan efficiency?? I'm not sure there even was a clutch fan option for that year so you can get a shroud.

The cost for a clutch fan, setup correctly, likely isn't much different than replacing the electric fan motor.
