turbo on a three cylinder?

Hello people.

Ive posted this up on the subaru forum area, but I havent got any response. So I thought maybe I'd try here seeing all the talk here is turbos.

I have never done anything with a turbo yet, I have been reading up on them and I got a pretty good idea on how it works and how it has to be connected, and so on.
I have questions though regarding what I will have to do to the engine and possibly the electronics.

First off, my car is a 1990 Subaru Justy MPFI 3 cylinder 5 speed 4x4 with 72000kms on it. The turbo is out of an 1987 Chrysler Lebaron, TEH04 Mistubishi that has oil and coolant lines and an internal wastegate.

OK, so here goes the questions...

What is the best pipe to use to make the manifold to connect the turbo to the engine? Exhaust pipe? thicker tubing??? I have ruled out trying to find a manifold from turbo firefly because there arent any around here.

What have solutions can be done for getting oil to the turbo, (I have a couple ideas but I'd like to see what other people do and it works.

Am I going to have a fuel delivery problem, i.e not getting enough gas to the cylinders? Am I going to have to change my MAP sensor? Is there a way to mod the computer if I have to?

I cant think of anything else at the moment...but if anyone has any answers or recommendations or knows of other potential problems, it would be much appreciated.

3 cylinder??? I thought the lowest they went was 4. It cant have much more power than my lawn mower, can it?

i didnt see any pictures of the turbo in there? I doubt there are many or any aftermarket ECUs out for this car so you could try adjusting those A/F ratios with a SAFC-II and use larger injectors (if you could find them?)...have you found any aftermarket support on these cars?

in terms of fuel, it really depends on how much boost you're planning on making. at up to 5 you might be ok if you're tight on money but any higher that that i'd strongly suggest upgrading your fuel system (pump, lines, filter, injectors, fuel rail, etc). also some other mods that would yield better results with this car would be a whole intake and exhaust system upgrade. you want good velocity and good flow before the turbo and as little backpressure after the turbo. so have some good headers, you might need custom, then turbo then a high flow cat (or no cat because how is the government going to know if you have it on during the drive clean test but take it off after) and large diameter tubing going back and maybe a straight through muffler. on the intake side, bigger throttle body, im not sure as to what size tubing you should use, you want good flow but you dont want lag because the turbo has to pressurize all the tubing before it gets to the engine. for mods that apply to both, heads(if you have the money) camshaft, valves, springs, you might need to lower compression depending on how much boost you're planning on running and how much you're already running.

In terms of computer, try to find an aftermarket ecu and such, they might help, if you cant find one (wich wouldn't surprise me concidering your car) your current one could probably be modified by people, i dont know anyone in particular. the worst things that could happen are that you run lean from lack of fuel and burn your valves, heads, or you experience detonation because of that or because of compression being too high. for starters, run low psi and work your way up, if something sounds wrong, something probably is. stop there and find out what it is, you dont want your engine shooting a piston through your hood because you started on 18psi and your engine wasn't even ready for 5. i hope someone gives better and more informative information on this subject, i cant think right now because it's late. good luck.

The car is a 1.2L 3cyl with 77hp. Its a very peppy little car. As far as after market stuff goes, I get laughed at every time I tell them what car its for. So no, there isnt really anything.

I have no idea how much boost i want to make, I read somewhere that the wastegate on the turbo is regulated to 7psi ('87 Chrysler lebaron 2.2L)

My plan for the exhaust is 2.5in all the way back from the turbo. As far as the headers go, Im going to make them my self, I have a pipe bender and that fun stuff to do it properly. Id just like to know what type of tubing (whether its standard thickness exhaust pipe or thicker mild steel tubing) I should use to make the headers out of?

Ive been told that I could play with the fuel regulator if i need more fuel (weaken the spring inside??)

When its on there and working, if i need to port the intake then i will...but right now id just like to be able to hook everything up and have it work...I know Im going to have issues, I just want the most info I can get right now before I start.

Geo metro sport edition has 3 cyclinders an a turbo from the factory an they kick hypathetic road burning ass so go for it

the geo never came with a turbo from the factory, its sister car, the suzuki swift GT, did though.

Actually, the Pontiac Firefly which is the same car as the geo came from the factory with a turbo 3 banger:

Still, the Geo never came from the factory turbocharged, even though sister cars did.

That's like me says the Escort never came turbocharged from the factory, then you pointing out that a European Escort RS-T is factory, even though it's a completely different platform and RWD.
