man this whole thing just really strikes home. We always talk about how safe we are when we street race. Late night when no one is around, who can we hurt? Right. Well Hypsi87 tragic death really shows us who can get hurt, his friends and family. I doubt many of us actually think about how are friends or family would feel if we died while street racing. We might be able to accept it, but not them. Lately street racing is just becoming less and less opealing. So im gonna try and give up street racing. Its dangerous and dumb, we shouldnt be doing it. So starting today (7/24/2005) im not going to street race for an entire month. Im gonna see if driving becomes really boring or not. Maybe after not doing it for a while i will loose the urge to do it. Im gonna give it a try, id like to see alot of other members try as well. One month isnt that long. If youd like to give it a try, add your name to the list.

My street racing has been few and far between lately anyway, but now I'm gonna think twice even harder next time I do some stupid fast driving in my car.

I haven't street raced in a longgg time.

Really haven't raced the Camaro at all. The clutch is bad, so I've been easy.

I guess you can add me to the list... but I've already been doing it for a while. I didn't race the 240z for a long time before I sold it, except for last night I had it.. which we got on video.

From what I have seen he was not racing but he was doing over 100mph according to the cops it said in the article. But I will give up street racing too for at least a month as a way to pay hommage to my friend I miss already.

R.I.P. Andy. I know who he was. We have talked. Im shocked. I will not street race or exeed the posted limit again. I miss andy and this has just hit me minutes ago.

i'd like to request a sticky of this for the month in his memory.... as a reminder to all of us of our pledges.

they said his left rear tire blew out and the car rolled over and he got thrown out of this car, that is what killed him. i didn't think he was wearing his seatbelt. i normally don't street race but there is a race between me and G35 coupe coming up soon. so i don't know if i can hold out. i don't want to put my name on the list then no do what i was suppose to do. that would be disrespect in his name. so i'll pass.

edit: just read the article in the O.T. forum and wow he was wearing his seatbelt but the force was so strong that it tore his seat belt up. now that really is a fucked up way to die. so sad. damn

I came in here and wanted to request a week of silence (No street racing) for Andy, but you beat me to it ... and a month is very inspiring.

As I have said before ... and a few times in the last week, sometimes things happen that make you stop street racing.

In addition to not street racing for a month ... I would like to challenge all of you to enter one SCCA Autocross by the end of August.

It's a great way to learn car control, realize how dangerous 40 mph is and helps get the need for speed out of your system.

friday i was on the freeway and my front right tire blew, i started swerving all over the place and a truck barely missed me. i was able to get over on the side before the other cars behind got closer

I knew him as a fellow moderator and read quite a few of his posts, but I didn't know him personally, so I cannot comment on his personal opinions. However, without causing an argument, I just wanted to say something that is on my mind. Is it possible that it could be said, that he died doing something he loved?

I mean, me personally, if I were to die, I would like it to be while driving the car I love. I know many of you knew him better than I did, so I don't mean to comment on his personal attitude, or disrespect the point of this thread.

I think that it is an awesome thing you guys are doing. But personally, I am not going to renounce street racing as a result of this tragedy. I don't know about you guys, but I've lost other friends to racing or driving fast, and I know that they died doing something they loved, and would not have wanted me to quit.

I just wanted to say that, so if I race and post, nobody will interpret it as disrespect. I wish his friends and family the best, and hope he rests in peace.

I can't believe this, I am almost at a loss for words. I thought I was going through a tough time. I won't renounce street racing for good, but a month seems like a reasonable tribute. Not that it matters since I haven't really been driving for over a month and the GTC has no insurance and expired tags so it won't be going anywhere for a while.

i've read quite a few of these tribute threads and i get goosebumps everytime, i didn't know andy super well, but from reading his many posts and talking with him through AF, I believe that Andy was the epitome of the "car guy", not only did he care about his car and himself, but i have heard many stories of him making sacrifices for others as well, reguardless of any backlash he may recieve, R.I.P. Andy Filson....i hope there's no such thing as turbo lag where you are right now:)....i'm giving up street racing for a month too...i'm too busy working on my bike anyways....Jayson you're awesome man :smile:....we need more dudes like you in this world...

Never really street raced to begin with, so no hwy runs or speeding for 1 month for me.

I'm not gonna do the no speeding/street racing thing. i won't be driving in two week sregardless (no car for college). Instead I'm gonna try not dipping/chewing/smoking for a month. This really is a rude awakening to all the stupid crap i've done, going 120 on the onramp to the hwy probably should have killed me, rolling a dune buggy going 65 probabbly should have killed me, drag racing on I29 probably should have killed me, my friend wrecking his car in downtown should have been enough to warn me. I shall not street race for at least one month in honor of all the fallen friends we have all lost. I didnt know Andy but out of respect I felt the need to post here.

Up untill now ive been sort of speechless on this tragedy. Him and I used to have some pretty in depth discussion in the Engineering/Technical and Turbo/Supercharger forums. He taught me a lot about boosted engines and chemistry. He was very intelegent and a great personality on AF. A good moderator and this just seems surreal. So I give up street racing untill i actually get some sort of performance modification or a new vehicle more suitable for racing.

oh ok, i was fixing to say, i had nothing but praise for Hypsi87. And i think about this every time before i get into my truck, it even keeps me from just getting on it hard all the time. i only do so when it is needed for a lane change or passing.
Which has probably saved me at least one pull over as the cops are really starting to crack down on street racing/wrekless driving here.
I got pulled over for a slight squeal after hitting some gravle going around a corner...

o my god. i had no idea. i havent been on here in a while. this is unbelieveable.... im dumbfounded and i dont know what to say. my prayers and thoughts go out to all of his friends and family. my god, i always used to watch his dyno video. i cannot believe it... death is never easy to cope with. but he is now in a better place. his drag strip in the sky. i know what its like to lose a close friend. and although i was not close to andy, he seemed like a great guy. again my thoughts go out to all of those involved with him. and i too will be upholding the no racing for a month. and probably alot longer than that. i still cant believe it....

I don't know what to say here. I've been off for so long when I finally log back in I come here to see this thread. At first I thought maybe Andy had broke into the 8's but as the page loaded it hit me that something bad had happened.
I didn't know him personaly or very well from the forum but I had nothing but respect for him and his devotion to his car. The last post I can remember that he posted was when he bought the block and now I come to see this. I'm still in shock after reading over all these pages.:(

Sorry to hear the news about Hypsi87.

It has been 11 months since I was last on the forum. Hypsi87 was a big help to me when I was building my 87 Buick Grand National. He always took the time to answer my questions and was very knowledgeable.

Wow that is horrible... Happenings like this have forced me to rethink my driving habits. No more street races. (I know I posted a race recently but if you dl'd it you would see its was a joke)

I knew hypsi back when i was s-15 racer and he showed me nothing but respect even tho i was a newbie he was a good guy and i hate to see things like this happen. Give my respects to his family! Im gonna miss his stories!
