I just had the starter in my 98 toyota camry replaced. The vehicle, which is equipped with an RS3000 alarm system, will not start with the key. However, when the starter is jumped from the battery, the vehicle starts and runs fine. Can anyone tell me if I have perhaps an ignition problem or if the alarm system is possibly keeping the vehicle from starting?

I would check to make sure all the wiring was hooked up correctly to the starter. If your alarm system has a starter disable function and the battery was disconnected I would suggest checking the manual about resetting it. If you dont have a manual just do an online search.

Thanks for the response. The problem turned out to be a fusible link. I didn't think to check them because the mechanic that replaced the starter told me that all of my links were good and that he didn't know why the car wouldn't start and that for $82.00, he could check the ignition system. In addition, he didn't even tighten down the negative battery cable before telling me that my vehicle was finished. The shameful thing here is that I took it to a nationwide franchise. So, either he was an incompetent mechanic or he was a crooked mechanic. I'd hate to think that everytime i pay for repairs, I have to check to ensure that they were actually done. Needless to say, I will never again go to that establishment. As far as the manual for the alarm, there is nothing in the way of troubleshooting listed. It does go over basic operation and programming remotes though.
