:feedback: It's not to say that i dont like the factory rims that came with my carmaro, but id like somthing a little bigger. 17 or even 18's are what im looking for. Now iv done a lil shopping around, more on the internet than in the real world, which is proablly why i dont already have a new set of 18's, but heres where my problem lays. Im looking to keep the trackion in the rear where it belongs an get a lil more style out of it while im at it,18x10 in th rear an 18x 7 or 8 in the front. any suggestions would be great thanks:dogpile:!

......for give me an my fast fingers, were not the best spellers an this whole laptop thing is new to us. TRACTION! would be the word i was looking for, and its the phyical effect that forces the rubber tires to stick to the ground.

You want to keep your tires but change the size of your rims? I don't get it...

Sorry i guess i didnt make myslef clear, with new rims come new tires, im not worried about getting new tires togo with the rims, im just looking for some nice 5 star 18x10's for the rear, an 18x7or 8. The problem is that im having trouble finding 18x10s for the rear, nor do i know how 18's will perform on my maro so i was looking for feed back. i know the more race ened guys are gonna tell me to stick with 16s or dont go any higher than 17's but hey thats why i asked, so i can find out what people have to say

I'm pretty sure you could find some ZR's with 10in backspace. They are 5 spoke too, and they look real good.

SpikeD
07-22-2005, 02:31 PM
i know of corvette zr-1 rims that are 17x11, those sound pretty wicked, thats a mother load of wheel! iv heard some talking of backspacing an wheel spacing tossed around not quite sure on the implamination of those though.

What size rims are on there now? Because if you increase rim size and don't go with a lower profile tire you will be changing the overall diameter of the wheel+tire so your speedo will be incorrect... a little bit anyways.

the corvette front rims will work with spacers.

i suggest going with a 17in rim because if you use a 245/40 tire you wont have to change your speedometer calibration. a 16in rim with a 245/45 tire is 26.4in tall, and so is the 17in/245/40 combo.

as far as the width of the rear tire, id have to look into the forums to find out but i think a 9 or 9.5in wide rim is the biggest that will fit in the factory wheel well. you could always tub it, but why. if your having traction problems i would focus on suspension and tires. worry about big wide rims later. i mean think about it, there are 600hp cars running 10.5in tires down the quarter in 10seconds. i think the 7 or 8in wide rim you have is plenty.

lol, anything bigger then 17s looks like shit on a 3rd gen.. blunt but true... what about 17x10 / 8 of aftermarket IROC replicas? i got the site around for them some where...

ive seen larger rims than 17in that looked damn good on the third gens, just cus you havent seen it dont mean it dont exist.

SpikeD
07-22-2005, 02:52 PM
its not that im having a traction problem at all, its more style than performance.so 9.5 is the biggest i should consider?

Viper_Storm

and for tires go with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 they have like the best dry / wet traction + tread life is great.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+GS-D3

89IROC&RS appears to love these tires, they are about 200 bucks a tire, it depends on profile, width, and diamater...

bigger tires have more rolling resistance, will hurt gas mileage. id run the narrowest tire you could without loosing performance and get the best of both worlds.

yea but all the bigger rims you see on 3rd gens are like 22s... like that heavy chevy... lol, remember that? im sure if you shell out enought for really good looking rims it would look good, but i just have yet to see a 3rd gen with bigger then 17s with rims that didnt make the car look like poo.

18's would look good on a 3rd gen... i wanted to go with 18's on back and 17's on front, but couldn't find any in my price range. Plus mix matching them makes the prices go up.

you can fit 17x11's on the back with spacers (which you should be using anyway, on most non-3rd gen factory wheels). it does take a lot of horsepower to justify that width, but they do look damn good though. even my 17x9.5 Zr1's look pretty nasty from the back. 9.5s and 11's are very good looking from the back, not to mention intimidating. These are 11's... hard to see them though. with the spacers they are pretty flush with the body.

can't really recommend a particular wheel to you because it's just a matter of what you like. if you have some money to spend hawks has some deep dish 17x9.5's that look really nice (http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=11986).

spacers can be had off eBay.

haha... lol... i wish that was my car. mine will be just as impressive though. i still have yet to figure out what paint scheme I want. I will have the same hood as that car, same wheels, no t-tops, same ground effects. mine still looks as it does in my sig.
