Way to prevent speed camerasBuzzr 04-27-2002, 01:09 AM hey i was surfing the forums and some guy said people in japan have their license plate on a tilt to prevent speed cameras like this: http://buzz.orcon.net.nz/cars/celica/monacelic.jpg Do guys think it'll work? taranaki 04-27-2002, 01:23 AM Dunno.....care to try it?:D Setanta 04-27-2002, 02:02 AM Over here tilting or obscuring plates = hefty fine or even a defect notice. The plate holders that blur the numbers etc to a camera are illegal and also lead to defect notice. Nasty if you get caught out which a lot of people have. Not speeding would prolly be a better way to avoid the cameras :flipa: tannee 04-27-2002, 07:28 PM I heard you can get licence plate covers that look exactly like those plastic ones that normal ppl use...when the flash is taken...it reflects and the pic is stuffed... evil_elmo 04-27-2002, 10:48 PM i don't think we can do that in nz Jay! 04-27-2002, 11:04 PM An alternative to fixing the plate back at the angle shown is to attach it with hinges, so it will swing back at speed... ;) A20A1 04-28-2002, 12:46 AM A judge just ruled that speed cameras are UNconstitutional over here... today is a beautiful day. :) Setanta 04-28-2002, 01:14 AM Originally posted by tannee I heard you can get licence plate covers that look exactly like those plastic ones that normal ppl use...when the flash is taken...it reflects and the pic is stuffed... Tannee's looking for something else to get defected on :finger: Tanne, it's illegal to sell them and illegal to have them on your car... do you even read my posts? :p Heheh - between Americans and their constitution I'm amazed they survive at all as a species :D tannee 04-28-2002, 01:19 AM Originally posted by Setanta Tannee's looking for something else to get defected on :finger: Tanne, it's illegal to sell them and illegal to have them on your car... do you even read my posts? :p Heheh - between Americans and their constitution I'm amazed they survive at all as a species :D LOL... nah i dont...coz you write too much...and my attention span is not that long....:D :D sarujin 04-28-2002, 01:29 AM jay@af's idea about hinges I have seen. ABout 2 years ago i saw a mx5, which when it went faster its plate went up!! ONly problem is how do you do this to your rear number plate. Or you could get one of the fancy radar detectors, that has GPS so you can program in pole-mounted cameras locations. sarujin taranaki 04-28-2002, 01:37 AM Originally posted by evil_elmo i don't think we can do that in nz   call me stoopid, but I never noticed that you are a kiwi before!!!!!  where abouts, mate!:D Oz 04-28-2002, 01:41 AM There is also a way to paint laquer onto your numberplate cover that I know of. I won't detail it here as it is highly illegal, but if ya really wanna know, email me. Spunkymonkey 04-28-2002, 05:01 AM the hinge idea wouldn't work.... as my uncle has been pulled over for having his number plate loose, and it was flipping when he drove...he didn't know though. oh, and my front number plate slightly tilts due to the mesh and kit, but no, I'm sure it wouldn't make a difference considering most speed cameras are taken from behind :p Setanta 04-28-2002, 05:13 AM heheh - I wasn't going to state the obvious with that one Q. Going to leave them to their innovations in number plate mounting :D taranaki 04-28-2002, 05:20 AM Originally posted by ozriceboy There is also a way to paint laquer onto your numberplate cover that I know of. There was a 'white power'organisation here trying to raise funds by selling a aerosol spray laquer kit that sounds remarkably similar....in a 'Fair Go' consumer test it was shown to be very difficult to do properly. evil_elmo 04-28-2002, 06:17 AM Originally posted by taranaki   call me stoopid, but I never noticed that you are a kiwi before!!!!!  where abouts, mate!:D yip i'm kiwi (well i was born in hong kong and my family moved here a long time ago, so yes i'm a kiwi.............) anyways i'm in the garden city (Christchurch :) ) taranaki 04-28-2002, 07:12 AM Originally posted by evil_elmo yip i'm kiwi (well i was born in hong kong and my family moved here a long time ago, so yes i'm a kiwi.............) anyways i'm in the garden city (Christchurch :) ) i've got whanau in Hillmorton..:D give you a yodel next time I'm passin' through! tannee 04-29-2002, 05:13 AM Originally posted by Spunkymonkey the hinge idea wouldn't work.... as my uncle has been pulled over for having his number plate loose, and it was flipping when he drove...he didn't know though. oh, and my front number plate slightly tilts due to the mesh and kit, but no, I'm sure it wouldn't make a difference considering most speed cameras are taken from behind :p tilt it...get flashed...if doesnt work...tilt it more...get flashed...if doesnt work....tilt more...........:p tannee 04-29-2002, 05:14 AM its called trial and error...learn from your mistakes....:D Spunkymonkey 04-29-2002, 05:21 AM Originally posted by tannee its called trial and error...learn from your mistakes....:D Or you can do what one of the guys at work did...put cardboard number plates on your car with Traffic written on them, then go past all the speed cameras in Sydney and test them... Ofcourse, it would be better suited to common cars....not easily identifiable ones. He has a WRX so it wasn't too bad. Oz 04-29-2002, 05:27 AM Why not just stick to speeds? I know, I know. Then why not buy a radar detector? Spunkymonkey 04-29-2002, 05:31 AM I've been pretty good lately...sticking to the speed limits...but then again...haven't been driving my car as much.... but sometimes going the speed limit in 50 and 60 in the teg...feels so dam slow....like I'm crawling. Setanta 04-29-2002, 08:44 AM Ummm Oz, Radar Detectors are illegal and yes, they can detect them. This I found out the hard way when I used my old uniden after they were made illegal. The stupid thing is that I drove slower with it than without it, everything set it off, door detectors, microwaves etc so you didn't take chances. taranaki 04-29-2002, 10:15 AM Originally posted by Setanta Ummm Oz, Radar Detectors are illegal and yes, they can detect them.
