intermittant service engine soon lightreubenator 07-19-2005, 09:39 AM I have a '97 chevy s-10 pu that displays an occasional service engine soon light shortly after filling up with gas. I have replaced the gas cap with a new one and it still happens. The light usually will go out when it reaches about the 3/4 tank level. Any ideas? OverBoardProject 07-19-2005, 05:56 PM Get the codes read, then you know what's wrong. Aparently Autozone will read them for free, and I believe that Canadian tire will too. (no promises on Canadian tire) reubenator 07-19-2005, 09:18 PM code is P1405, I guess the EGR valve is bad OverBoardProject 07-19-2005, 10:52 PM Quick, easy fix. Probably about $35.00 or so for the part, and then your laughing Mango™ 07-20-2005, 11:57 AM it is an easy fix, little room to work but easy reubenator 07-22-2005, 08:27 AM Not quite $35. Try $210-260. Took off and cleaned carbon off and now works fine. OverBoardProject 07-22-2005, 11:07 AM Ouch, 210+ for a simple EGR, that's INSANE. glad that cleaning it worked out then, and I hope that it lasts a long time. dmbrisket 51 07-22-2005, 12:56 PM yep, expencive little fuckers arent they, they dont go bad that often, buy it from a j yard instead of a stealership if you have to get a new one OverBoardProject 07-22-2005, 05:10 PM stealership; That's a new one to me Doug, I like it. I'm almost afraid to ask how everything is going with your truck. I hope that everything is working out reubenator 07-25-2005, 07:13 AM Well I got that problem straightened out. I just got this truck last week. It has 70,000 miles on it. I bought it at a used dealership and took it to have the transmission fluid changed and the garage did one of those 20 point inspections including checking the coolant. Later that day on my way home the temp guage started to fluctuate back and forth from 100 to 240 degrees. Here the assholes didn't tighten my radiator cap and half my coolant boiled out. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
