Metal in tranny fluid

I checked my ATF fluid yesterday and it was full and clear but i
noticed some metal flecks/filings in it. I dropped the pan and
changed the filter today and there was a fine mist of metal coating
the pan. I don't know how much is normal to expect and how much is
too much. But you could see it by looking at the rag after you clean
off the tranny dipstick.

The tranny was rebuild about 25 000KM ago.

Should i have it checked out?

I changed mine at 44000 and it had slight metal in it and the magnet was a little fuzzy with fine metal - I think the time to worry is when you see a lot of small flakes. My buddy who rebuilds them says you will know if its coming apart.

I'm including a picture of how my pan and magnet looked when I changed my fluid. The gray area to the right of the magnet is a little stuff from the magnet that was on my finger - I just spread it around a little to check the texture of the stuff. If your pan looked like this you shouldn't have any problem.

Also, I refilled my trans with Mobil 1 ATF. It's 6 bucks a quart, (times 7 quarts - $42 for fluid), but I think well worth the money.

I've had similar problems on all my GM, never really seemed to have any detrimental effect though.
