Post Your Z car stories HereDriftertank 07-18-2005, 08:38 PM I'm 21, and always wanted a rear-drive car, as long as I could remember. I also wanted something sporty, and reliable, which really means I needed a jap car. The two best brands mechanics usually recommended were Hondas and Nissans. Well, back then, Honda didn't have a readily available RWD car, so at the age of 15, I decided I wanted a Nissan 240sx, S13 chassis. They were relatively cheap, and easy to find, and, since I have an annoying habit of getting into things about five years before they go mainstream, I entertained thoughts of saving up and building a cheap, easy Silvia drifter, a la Gran Turismo. Unfortunately, I didn't have a decent job, so my mom helped me get a 1990 Honda accord EX (which has been an awesome car, considering I autocrossed the hell out of it, and it still runs today). Fast forward to 2004. I'm fresh out of tech school, get a job as a diagnostic tech, and decide it's time to get some new wheels. Alas, the drifting craze has hit america, and S13's are now worth their weight in gold. So I hit the classifieds, hoping to find my FR Nissan in the form of somebody's beat up old 510 or 200sx. I like the 1st gen. Z cars, but they are hard to find, and expensive, especially the 2 seaters (S30 2+2's just look funky). But I open the paper, and flip to the Nissan/Datsun section. And the first thing I see is "1977 280Z 1 owner 92k miles $1500 firm. call..." So I called and arranged a meeting. The car is yellow, the body is straight, with some rust in the fenders and 1/4 dogleg. He starts it up, and it idles like a cammed out musclecar. He says the cam's bad, but There's fuel leaking from the pressure regulator. (experienced Z guy's, I see you smirking) The guy's wife bought it new in 1977, and they've had it ever since. They're remodeling their house, though, so the Z has to go. They tell me some sixteen year old kid and his dad were looking at it earlier, and that the kid wants it for a project, to throw a V-8 in. The guy says he'd really rather not see that happen, and I fervently agree. I tell him I have to shop for insurance for it, but I'll get back to him. Well, I got my insurance, went back the next day, and paid cash. He signed the title over, and I got into my Z car to drive it home. It hasn't been run more than five minutes in the last 6 months, and smokes. It runs rough, and it's sluggish as hell. But I don't care; I've got my FR Nissan, and one of the most attractive ones ever made, at that. As it warms up, it stops smoking, and starts to grow some balls. Just as it's getting up to temp, I stop by my buddy Jeff's place to show it to him. He wants to go for a ride. As we strap in, I tell him, "It's not as fast as the honda, but it's pretty decent." To demonstrate my point, I rev up and dump the clutch, then immediately start fighting to keep it pointed straight as it roasts the tires up to 50 mph. We're both stunned. Jeff just looks at me and says,"Dude, I think it's faster than the honda." "I think you're right." I reply. And it only gets better from there! longlivetheZ 07-18-2005, 10:34 PM Dude...It'd take me 10 years to type all my Z stories. I'm 22 (my birthday was yesterday, the 17th) and I've had 3 of them, all Z31s (1984-1989 300ZX is considered a Z31...1990-1996 is a Z32)...2 86s, 1 turbo and one 2+2 (FYI...can't get a turbo Z31 2+2 in the U.S...) and 1 88 NA 2 seater that I currently have. I sold the first one (the 2+2 which I bought as my first car when I was 17-ish) before I left Florida. I regret that to this day. The second one, the 86 turbo, was basically totalled when my dumb ass hit a curb. The engine from that one is in storage right now stripped down to the block and heads waiting to go to the machine shop for some work. Between the 3 of them, I could write a novel... ZedEx 07-18-2005, 11:43 PM When I was a little kid, I remember seeing a 300ZedX for the first time... I remembered that car for years, until when I was 15, I finally got mine. Red 1990 Non-Turbo Automatic. Long, Long, LONG story short... Blown motor, I fixed, I drove. Then I decided to sell it to start a new project. I sold her for close to $4,000, and bought a Black 1992 Non-Turbo Automatic. Powder coated the wheels black, Twin Turbo front bumper, Twin Turbo MAF, Injen Intake, STILLEN Headers, Twin Turbo Injectors, and small things here and there. I sold that car as well... Worst mistake of my life, I miss her so much. Then I bought another Red 1990 Non-Turbo Automatic. The same story as my first Zed... I sold her before I even started. Not sure what I was thinking about buying another project. Now... I drive a 1994 Civic. I wasn't happy, but God the car's been fun. I hope to return to the Zed cars soon. Just takes time to find one. -Wes ExTrEmEDrIfT 07-19-2005, 01:08 AM i could tell my story of how i did a 180 on a 4 lane road 2 diff times and places and both not even meaning to lol Driftertank 07-19-2005, 11:01 AM I've got another 1 for y'all: about six months after I got my S30, I was cruising out on the freeway, heading north of my hometown of Yakima, WA. I hit the place where the speed limet jumps up to 70, and I kick it up to about 90. I look in my rearview, and see a black car slowly gaining on me. I can't tell what it is yet, but I figure, if it's a cop, he'd already have me lit. So, I push it up to about 120, just to see if he wants to play, and apparently he does, since he's still gaining on me. By this time, I realize it's a Z33, and I get a little chill. I decide to see if he REALLY wnats to play, so I take the exit that leads to what everybody around here refers to as "The Canyon Road." He follows me, and, as a true Z lover, I'm getting tingly. You see, The Canyon Road runs roughly paralell to the interstate, but does it up a canyon (hence the name) along a river. To give you some idea of the kind of road it is, the speed limit is 45 the whole way. So, this little meeting could have been written for a nissan commercial. So, we head up the Canyon Road, averaging about 90 most of the way, hitting 120-125 in spots, and only slowing down for traffic. When we meet traffic, we pass one at a time, with me waiting in front until he gets around, then resuming our run. Neither of us is pushing our cars to the limit, it never gets scary, it's not a competition. It's just fast enough to get the adrenaline pumping a little.(Isn't that something that speaks well of any Z? Double the posted speed limit, and we're just cruising?) At the end of the canyon, I pull off into a driveway, and he pulls in behind me. We sit and talk. Seems when he was a kid, he had a '74 260Z, and he regrets ever having sold it. (seems to be a common thread among former Z owners) He just bought the 350Z a week ago, and is already enrolled in an advanced driving course in portland. He gives me a business card, because he wants to see my '77 when I finish restoring / modifying it, and we part ways. It was just awesome, almost magical, because it was completely spontaneous, and the only thing we had in common was a passion for Z cars. ZedEx 07-19-2005, 12:11 PM Driftertank, that definately sounds like a Nissan Commercial  "30 years... And nothing has changed." "shift_Tradition" Hmmm... Sounds like a pretty cool commercial to me  -Wes longlivetheZ 07-19-2005, 02:06 PM That's one thing about Z cars...their is a true bond between their owners and the cars. Very rarely is the car just a mode of transportation. 9 times out of 10, you can flash your high beams at a passing Z car and get a freindly wave or a flash in return...if not both. And the 1 time they don't respond, they probably didn't see you or something. I've had similar things happen to me...that's just kinda how it is owning these cars. If you have one and don't want attention, then you better sell it...cuz you're gunna get looked at and you're gunna have people that wanna chat. 99% of people I know and/or have talked to about cars, be it Z chat or not, either had a Z car, wish they had one or DO have one. That's how it goes with Z cars. Wolfwood 07-19-2005, 03:06 PM I'm really enjoying reading everyone's Z stories. I thought I'd post my own. My Z story starts about 8 years before I was born. In 1975 my dad bought a new 280Z first year of production. He still had it when I was a little kid and I remember loving it, and begging for him to drive me in it when we went places. When I was a little older he told me he would let me have it someday, and I was thrilled with the idea. When I got my license, sure enough he said it was mine. But this was no normal hand-me-down car, this thing was still in showroom condition! (and it is to this day the nicest non-restored classic Z of I've ever seen). I refused the car at first, fearing that in my inexperience I would wreck it, and my dad would never forgive me for that. My intuition paid off, I chose another not so nice car, and collided into an SUV (thank god I wasn’t driving the Z). In the mean time my dad was tired of the Z sitting idle in the garage going unused, and he considered selling it, but every time I would plead my case desperately and resolutely that I did want that car, and that he must save it for me till I was ready!!! So when I felt my driving skills had matured enough, I asked my dad for the Z. And it’s all mine now!! It has 180,000 miles on it, with no mechanical problems at all, and everything about it is tip top. My dream was to one day equip it with an SR or RB20, but after driving it I'm very happy with the L28 and I’m in no hurry to improve upon such a classic. That’s my Z story up to this point, but it’s a story that I hope never ends, since I plan on passing it down myself someday (even if it has to be fitted with an electric engine when all the fossil fuels run out!!) Driftertank 07-19-2005, 03:57 PM Yeah, there's not many cars out there that you can find two people, driving different models of the same car seperated by almost 30 years, spontaneously enjoying a spirited drive together, completely without provocation. Maybe Posche 911's, or Corvettes, but many of those are purchased as status symbols, by people with little or no concern forthe cars heritage. I, personally, feel priveliged to be a part of such a proud and select group of vehicle owners. Lemme hear ya SAY amen! longlivetheZ 07-19-2005, 04:49 PM Yeah, there's not many cars out there that you can find two people, driving different models of the same car seperated by almost 30 years, spontaneously enjoying a spirited drive together, completely without provocation. Maybe Posche 911's, or Corvettes, but many of those are purchased as status symbols, by people with little or no concern forthe cars heritage. I, personally, feel priveliged to be a part of such a proud and select group of vehicle owners. Lemme hear ya SAY amen! Most Corvette guys I've run across in my time are dick holes. Usually just some 40-something having a mid life crisis...nothing says "mid life crisis" or "trying to regain youth" like a scrawny white bitch-boy on a Harley or a yuppy ass hole in a Corvette... Never noticed this to be the case with Zs...EVER... Driftertank 07-19-2005, 06:11 PM One more funny little story; I was just getting off the freeway one day, when a state patrolman pulled me over. I hadn't been speeding, had signalled carefully (i'd seen him following me), and couldn't figure out why he pulled me over. He walked up and asked me for my license. No registration, no proof of insurance, just license. He glanced at it, handed it back to me, informed me I had a brakelight out, and then asked me, "Nice Z. What year is it?" "'77," I replied. "' Twin carb?" "Nope, electronic fuel injection." "Really? On a '77?" "Yeah, they had fuel injection from '75 on," I told him. The discussion went on for about ten minutes, talking about how long I had the car, What I planned to do to it, How he had always wanted one of them as a kid, and so on. If I'd had somewhere important to be, I'd have been mad, but I thought it was hilarious that he had found some little excuse to pull me over just to ask me about the car. THAT's what it means to own a Z. ZedEx 07-19-2005, 06:21 PM I've only been pulled over ONCE... And it was because the officer wanted to compliment how nice my Black Zed looked  God I miss that car... :( -Wes Mr.Molasses 07-19-2005, 06:50 PM well here's my z story: I have always been a z fan ever sice Ive seen one. I started reading about them. everything i could get my hands on. i love all the Zs but the 280zx became an obsession for me. for two years i searched newspapers, autotrader, ebay, everything for a 280. never found one closer then 300mi away. i saver $4,000 and then about a month ago i saw a 1986 harley for sale in the paper. ON MY WAY to buy the Harley something caught my eye. There on the side of the road was a 1980 280zx for sale. Red and silver, no rust , perfect interior. Needless to say i never even saw the Harley. I test drove and bought the Z that day and i dont think ill ever regret it Driftertank 07-19-2005, 08:11 PM As long as you keep it, you wont regret it, no matter how much you have to fight to keep it running. The only time you'll regret is if you sell it. My Z is sitting at a buddy's house right now, because it needs a new trans. I plan to throw the 5-speed from the parts car my buddy sold me into it, so I can drive it until I finish building the engine from the donor car. THAT'S a crying shame, that. It's an '82 280ZX 2-seater N/A. He's a stoner with anger issues. When the car wouldn't start, he broke the windows, kicked in the fenders and jumped on the roof, caving it in. The body is absolutely ruined. But the engine is still usable, I think; the tranny is still good, and it has the 3.9 rearend i want to replace my 3.54. I got the car from him for $100. I plan to strip every potentially useful piece of equipment from it, and use it to breathe new life into my '77. "He died so that others may live." LOL xXxRocker5150 07-29-2005, 10:39 AM lol, wow well let's see. For me I started off with a 3000GT, my mom bought the car for me as a kinda birthday/x-mas present, but that was short-lived. My grades sucked and she sold it. Although I was very mad, it was a good thing, because my grades picked up and I vowed to get another 3kgt. Well at this time however, my friend had just gotten an 86' n/a 300zx auto. he took me for a ride in it, and I just loved the sound and look of it. Fast forward a little... I than bought my neighbor's 92 bonneville for 100 bucks just to tool around in. I put $500 worth of parts in it and decided it was time for a new car. I started looking in the papers and online for a new 3kGT, but than something sparked in my memory. I had remembered reading somewhere that they made turbo'd z's in the 80s so I went to look up the specs. When I found that they were rated at about 200 horse and about 225 TQ for a decent price tag, I was sold. I started looking for one, and the only one I wanted (a turbo 5spd) was 2 miles from my house! I went to go check out the car, and from the first time I saw it, I immediatly fell in love with it, as did my mom and my dad. My mom wouldn't shut up about how sexy of a car it was, and after we took the test drive, my dad kept taking about it to everyone. Well after some hefty convincing (my mom thought the car was too dangerous, so I lied to her about some 1/4 mile times) my mom agreed to front me the 2 grand I needed, and I bought the car (this was a week ago today). Since last week I've grown to love the car even more, and when I was on a cruise yesterday, I saw a 97' 3000GT comming the opposite wasy, and thought to myself, I'm glad I bought my z. I gave him a thumbs-up though but he looked angrily at me and floored it past me... I can't stress how much I love this car, for instance yesterday I averaged 23.8 MPG city... somthing I'd never done in the 3KGT or even in my minivan. Even better is how much my friends love it; they're even more addicted to the boost than I am. Oh yea, and the best part... the lady's always want me to park it in their garage :icon16: . I hope to be posting race stories soon, but I'd rather stick to the empty streets and parking lots where I can practice my technique. longlivetheZ 07-29-2005, 01:12 PM Just be careful with it, man. My last Z, an 86T with a 5 speed, had bad tires on it when I got it and would easily get sideways in 3rd gear on dry ground. It was down right horrifying in the rain. They're not very powerful, but they're fun...that fun can cause trouble. Have fun, but be careful with it! apostrophe28 07-30-2005, 10:02 PM yea no matter what Z it is its going to be fun, fast and look kick ass while doing so ExTrEmEDrIfT 08-01-2005, 01:42 AM ok im sure i have told these in differant threads but for those who didnt read it ill tell it : ok so one friday night me and a couple friends went to this imax and seen some movie dont remember what it was anyways 2 of them were in my friends '03 eclipse and me and another were in my z31 i was following him because i didnt know the way to where we were going .. well this mercedes SLR pulled up next to my friends eclipse and my friend started messin wit him jerkin abck and forth then they took off the guy in the slr was just messin around not hitting it all the way becuase if he did he woulda easily smoked him im in teh right lane behimd the SLR the slr slamms on his brakes so i hit mine my friend in teh eclipse didnt have to brake but he wanted to stay next to the slr so he did .. he slowed so that his rear of his car was even with my door and theres a guard rail on the right .. all of a sudden my brakes lock up im already close at this moment if i would have let off i would hit SLR in front of me then at the last second i have room to swerve over to teh left coming a mere inch or less from friends car my car jerks over after i swerve and throws me into a spin out i ended up doing a 180 in this busy 4 lane road ... i slid backwards in the lane next to the slr passing him , once i finally stopped all i seen was a huge cloud of tire smoke blow past me ... i looked around and hit it going the way i was facing opposite of where i was going before any cops came about 5 seconds later i seen a cop drive oppostie of me i didnt get pulle dover but it was one of those times i wish i had a camera with me .... reason car jerked me over i found out and concluded is because my control arm bushings and sway bar need replacing i can literally move my control arm back and forth .. it also does it if i make a real sharp left turn.. i have more stories but im going to leave this one out there for now and let a couple more stories get posted k3smostwanted 08-01-2005, 04:22 AM ill post a story, the story of how i got my Z32: it all started when i was looking to get rid of my 1993 Mercury Cougar. i couldnt stand the car another minute. good car for a 1st car but i needed more. i dont have kids, i dont have a house, i dont have any priorities except for school...what could possibly keeping me from buying a sports car??? the search began...i started with the 3000GT, like the styling of the earlier ones but did a little research and found out that they are plagued with many problems and they are a little common on my area. looked at some older porsches and older japanese cars...too old, not enough umphh...i wanted something more. i found a supra N/A about 50 miles from my house. i went and drove it, didnt care for it...seemed like a bigger car than i wanted and it wasnt plentiful at all. plus, the ricer fan base is beyond huge. i didnt like that at all...i then fell in love with the RX7 TT's...again only came in TT and pricey, thought i still love the car i cannot afford one at that time. then along came a what i would soon find out would be a Z32 300ZX...i saw it in chicago and fell in love with the styling. so sexy, beautiful...perfect blend of aggressiveness and class. did some research...it is affordable and reliable. at this time i couldnt afford a TT so i said i will have to settle for a N/A (boy, was i wrong about that). the search began, for a few months i hunted for a N/A 300zx in either of the silver colors. boom...i found one, $4500 in Kentucky. a very long drive but it was going to be worth it...i was going down there with $4500 in hope of talking him down to $4000. 1991 2-seater 5-speed N/A...just what i want. rented a dolley and was going to borrow my grandpas pick up truck to haul it home. decided to run a carfax report the night before...to my surprise, it had been in 2 major accidents. both front end damages...i said to myself, this cant be. called the guy immediately and he confirmed that he knew it had been in 1 from a previous owner and another from his son which was in the marines at that time. he then goes on to tell me that it had a new motor installed from a 93 out of a junkyard that sustained rear end damage. ehh...at this time i had no idea what teh future beheld so i passed on his offer and went for the search again. (soon to find out that this is one of the biggest mistakes in my Z life). finally 1990 2+2 automatic in silver in mind conition, leather seats...went and took a look at it. this thing was spotless in and out...one owner who was 65 at the time, he bought it brand new in 1990 from the same nissan dealership it sat on. owned it for the last 15 years and enjoyed it...it was time to get rid of the sports car as he was getting too old and needed to buy a buick park avenue. :dunno: the guy had left the phone number at the dealership for whoever bought it to give him a call. this is how i found out all this information...well i test drove the car. the car ran absolutely perfect and sounded good with the Stillen Cat-Back installed. i fell in love and talked down the dealership from $8000 to $5500. good...now i have to go to work so i had my mother drive it home from the dealership as she already works up there. i come home from work to go out for a spin in my baby. transmission doesnt shift in to 3rd gear. problem: my mother grinded 3rd, 4th, and OD out of the automatic transmission on the way home because teh dealership did not decide to check the fluids after it had been sitting for so long. called the dealership and they got an earful but to no prevail i was stuck with the car. at this time, i had a little extra cash so i pay to get the transmission rebuilt. i should have waited and put it towards the, soon to come, TT/5-speed swap but i just wanted to drive it and i am no psychic. i was happy summer came along and i got to drive my car all over town. did a couple modifications, bought some wheels that got fucked in a drunk driving accident (wasnt me who was drunk). this was not so bad because i ended up getting a JDM fascia and TT spoiler put on and putting the rest for the TT/5-speed swap which would come the following winter (this winter). well, as most of you know...i am completing the TT/5-speed swap with quite a few bolt-on modifications and i am hoping not to run into any mroe problems. wish me luck!!! kind of a shitty ending but hey...if you read this far you are probably just as tired of reading as i am of typing. this my complete story, atleast as complete as it is going to get. the beginning of my Z life sucked but i seem to be seeing a light at the end of a tunnel. especially if someone purchases all of this N/A crap in my garage so i can put it towards some 530BB turbos. :D stephenp 08-01-2005, 09:50 PM my favorite z story was when a truck pulled up into the parking lot me and my buddie was chillin in (he had a 89 rs 5 speed camaro, i my 50th 5 speed turbo z31) when the truck went passed he chirped, i chuckled, then he lit them up and burned em in reverse where he stopped about then i was already rollin, eyes glazed from the addrenalione and my buddies says(as he turns his head wanna show him whats up i sling my head back and laugh , whats it look like im doing.... he says wait for me to leave (he knows whats happening) he chirpes and burns them out the parking lot and i rev to about 3 gs dump it into 2nd and slide a LARGE circle (approx 35 moddest feet in diamiter) around a pole , approx 7 feet from my rear and i let off and ramp on it into 2 hella tight circles and let off and slide to the exit ... at which time i thought i may hjave caught a fre so incase of athority i limp it about a mile and ahalf she cleared out and i was home free.... went oiut the nexty day and opened the door to the smell of burnt rubber couple weeks later i saw a honda guy in the local blockbuster parkinglot rolled passed him and lit them up about a 100 yard slide (about a 30 degree an gle slight walk) let off cranked the wheel and ramped back on it slide to a donut then stopped and talked to my buddie talked for about 5minutes when the honda boy rolled passed with his ladies oogleing over and i tglance because my buddie said he was leaveing and the smoke was still there ok one more while im at it same parking lot i had a freind with me who said my car wasnt as bad as everone says i chuckle and say oh really, going about 35 i rev and dump the clutch into 2nd slide into the 2 way parking lot *(2 lane) slide over and spin it back about 8 feet from the pole at over 35 (2nd was reved and we were acceling for a few moments and the only thing that kept it a little under the actually rpm was the slide) but any way i over lay the patch and leave the parking lot grab 3rd on the way out, still sideways go approx 70 yards sideways to a 180 degree turn, approx a 20 ft diamater.. drop into 2nd to make the turn(switched the front side to sdied to slow but keep the slied asnd change momentum go around the turn and slide one way (inward) grab third and slide the other and aboput then he was like ...... h......o......l..y shit i had no fucking clue i chucked and said talk shit buddie and as for sliding sideways in 3rd i did it(good tires) into 4th i thiought i was gonna die hittin 104 in 3rd bangin 4th and looking at the roadside dead of winter 12 psi boost, 3 " manderal straight pipes, 3' stainless steel cone, elec. fan, no pwr steering, weight reduction out the ass, and many more too many to list longlivetheZ 08-01-2005, 11:30 PM Those stories kinda reminds me of something that happened to me...cuz every story of yours has something to do with burning rubber... I was only 16. It was the first day I had my first 300. I had to go to work the night I bought it. As I'm getting into my car (an 86 2+2 with a 5-speed), 2 of my managers come out into the otherwise empty parking lot and tell me to light 'em up. I was like...ok...even though I wasn't 100% sure I knew how to do this since I'd never done it. I start the car, mash the gas and drop the clutch. Well...it worked. I look in the mirror and just see a huge cloud of smoke and my managers clapping. My one-wheeled-wonder left a ~50 ft strip all the way through the parking lot that was there for about 3 years...lol...it ruled. Broke_as_**** 08-01-2005, 11:37 PM Well it's kind of a long story but: I bought my Z, the engine ate a piston on the way from buying it and then I started to upgrade. .... .... .... *walks out of the thread* ExTrEmEDrIfT 08-02-2005, 01:10 AM yah so i told this one in another thread probably but once again for those who didnt see it here it goes: So me and a friend was ridin around in my z31 ... As we pull up to this light this dude in a '03 RUSTANG looked over and i laughed at him so we hit it soon as the light turned green he pulled on me on the low end but soon as my turbo power kicked in i pulled on him and passed him to like 3 lights down where it was red... Soon as it turne dgreen once again same thing he pulle don me on low end but soon as turbo spooled i started passing him and he threw a sode out of his window it ended up hitting the side of my car, splashing on my friends face and inside my car ... they slow down real fast so i do too but same problem happened , brakes locked up i slid forward and controled it but then my steering shifted me and it threw the front of my car right so teh rear got thrown left i countered then there was alot of dirt and stuff on teh ground form road work down that whole street and i slid back teh opposite way sliding backwards to a halt then i ht it and drive around in a circle real quick start to chase those punks ...... So we are at this stoplight and we see them like 5 cars ahead so my friend gets out and runs after their car and they are in front so at this point the light turns green i pulled around teh corner to get him and we never found the guys but still looking at every dark blue mustang to see if i recognize the person... kinda a long way to put it all but hey it sounded better that way lol longlivetheZ 08-02-2005, 01:42 AM I would have gotten the plate number. I can find anything on the net...:evillol:...I'd show up, park my car in their front yard, shit on their doorstep and beat the hell out of the guy for good measure... ExTrEmEDrIfT 08-02-2005, 02:06 AM yah .. well what goes around comes around hell get whats coming to him , might not be today , might not be tomorrow but eventually his time will come lol the whole things pisses me off but just thinking about a pop getting splashed in my friends face all over makes me laugh Driftertank 08-02-2005, 10:46 AM Okay, since the burnout stories came up, I have a kind of funny one. It really isn't a Z story, but it's entertaining. I was out cruising one night, and we're parked outside Jack in the Box. I'm driving my accord. This moron in a Focus is going on about burnouts and talking shit. He tries to do one. He gets one wheel spinning in first then tries to grab 2nd and bogs it. So now all the little high school punks are talking about shitty little burnouts. I decide to show 'em wassup. Now, my Accord is mostly stock, with only exhaust and intake work done, but after I burned up a $300 Proactive clutch in less than a year, I had decided to throw a CM stage 4 and 8 lb. flywheel in it. So, after strategically moving the car so that everyone can see the pass. side tire (that's the one that usually lights), I reef on the parking brake, rev it up, and dump the clutch, carefully holding my revs right at six grand. I see satisfying wisps of smoke start pouring over the fender, then realize that the drivers side is smoking, too. Bonus points. I hold that way for about twenty seconds, then release the e-brake and start moving, pulling out of the parking lot and taking off down the street. I circle the block, and start back. As I drive by, I see a cop in the parking lot, so I decide to keep driving. I finally head back about half an hour later, and as I pull up, the dude in the focus tells me the cop was pulling into the lot as I was pulling out, and if I'd held for two more seconds, i woulda been busted. But, he says, they liked the smoke show, and told the cop it was a green accord on 18's with a turbo H22 from the tri-cities. Like I said, mines mostly bone-stock, right down to the factory 15's with missing center caps. And it's black. But I left 2 eighty foot black streaks, with holes in the pavement at the start. Now, to keep it Z relevant, About a year ago, I did an even longer burnout in that same lot in my '77 Z. The holes in the pavement are visible to this day, and probably will be until they repave the lot. But the only witness to that one (that I know of, anyway) was my buddy Jeff. Someday I hope to mark that lot with my 323 rally car, but with only 90 horsepower, I'm rather dubious about the prospects of that. ExTrEmEDrIfT 08-03-2005, 02:14 AM (that's the one that usually lights) lol best part thats funny .. yah thats one thing i hate about the '86 300zx is that it didnt come with a lsd stock ... if im not mistaken i think they started it in '87 longlivetheZ 08-03-2005, 12:57 PM Nope...the only models with stock LSD is the 87-89 turbos. It's an R200 Clutch type LSD. Short one: I went to my highschool's parking lot and did some wicked doughnuts in my 86 T...if you were good, you could lay some good rubber outta that thing. I was pissed when I went back 2 days later to view the carnage and they had repaved...lol. xXxRocker5150 08-03-2005, 01:48 PM wow, good stories guys, I haven't even tried to burn out yet, I'm afraid I'll do somthing to my car :loser: ... longlivetheZ 08-03-2005, 04:11 PM Ha...you gotta, man. It's a must. And your car has the LSD in it...no one wheel wonder for you. It's tricky, though. The Z31T HAS enough power to do it. It's just tricky to get the right amount of brake force to keep the car from speeding up too much, which will ruin the burn out, and enough throttle to keep the RPMS at the right level to keep the tire (or in your case, "tireS") smokin. It takes a bit of practice, but the Z31 can roast rubber pretty well. Laid some good strips in my NA Z...laid some REALLY good strips in my old Turbo once I learned how to do the dance properly...:p stephenp 08-03-2005, 05:35 PM i got an 84 and only one wheel wonmders once inm a while but 99 out of 100 its both actually i think only 2 times that it only spun 1 wheel so i dont know maybe they put a lsd in it maybe its just seized togehter or maybe its the sideways mothion but any way i got a race for you i pulled up to a teg one day and asked my buddy if he thought i could take it (any normal day hed be like jee i wonder ass hole , he gets pissed at me always be sarcastic), but ironicly he says i dont know about this one, i look over and youd almost swear he had aa christmas tree in there it was so lit up with gauges i was like woaw, so i rev up any way thrird time a charm slide it in 3rd and dump the clutch we take off and as i grab 4th i wait for him to fly by and in the mid range of 4th i look back hes dropped way back i ask my buddie if he thought he stepped on it, he said right the moment before i dumped my clutch his heart dropped he lunged ahead(only about a foot i didnt even notice in my periferial) and then he said and then you just jogged away.... i was like jogged?? as in walked he was like no much more thanb a walk but he was trying so you only jogged. also raced a z32 tt in my 86 na or should i say i got him to floor it.....it was kinda funny cuz i knowq him and he knows me but at the time he didnt know that i had a z any way we both left the mall (about 45 minutes from aur town) when i wa sgetting on the highway (sharpo ass wrap around turn) it was funny cuz i lovew to drive fast o cornewrs and rumor has it he cant , so anyway im squirelling (all 4 tires wirl) around the corner and the kid thats with me is liike your gonna eat him up i told to shut up itas a tt runnin 15 psi with an exhaust, intake(filter), and an ecu and you think i can take him ... about then hes hiottin the hioghway and im grabbin 4th(about 85) he zips passed ands my buddie is like what did you slow down for you can smoke him io was like hey duesh bag i never let off but anyway i pass him and he follwows me the whole way home then he passes just before our exit it was funny i followed him and we webnt the same way for like 10 min. i think he thought i wasa following hi i was just goin downm town and he started gettin it it was funny cuz in town i was chewin him, like i said fast corners any way i saw him a few weeks later and i was in my 50th and asked if he wqanted to race he said i already smoked you i was like this ones turbo na,med a coukle of the moids (left out the weight reduction) and he was like no i still smoke you but i think i fried something that night it hasnt been running right i was like eeew but now hes back on the road and now im off....., longlivetheZ 08-03-2005, 06:33 PM i got an 84 and only one wheel wonmders once inm a while but 99 out of 100 its both actually i think only 2 times that it only spun 1 wheel so i dont know maybe they put a lsd in it maybe its just seized togehter or maybe its the sideways mothion You've got something wrong, then...only ones that came with LSD from the factory are 87-89 turbos. If you had an LSD, one wheel would NEVER spin...both would ALWAYS spin. http://z31.com/differential.shtml You need to use punctuation, man. Reading your posts are difficult. Do you type something like that and look at it and say "good enough" and click "submit", or do you not even know what you're typing? DeleriousZ 08-03-2005, 08:43 PM don't even bother brent, we've all tried to tell him... most of us just skip over his posts... longlivetheZ 08-03-2005, 09:15 PM Jeez...good to know I'm not the only one that is aggrivated by that. Might as well type posts like this... Iliketotypesonoonecanreadmyshitit'sfuncuzI'mamoron ...it's actually difficult for me TO type like that. Yaggus 08-04-2005, 11:07 PM Hahahahaha well i have a fairly different stort as to how i got my Z.... When i had decided i needed to get a faster car after getting sick of my lancer, i decided that importing a car from Japan was a fantastic idea that could save me thousands rather than buying a car locally. I started off looking for an MR2 turbo because i really love the styling of them. And because it was only a 2 seater i wouldnt have my mates begging me for lifts all the time. It happens when you the only one with a nice car.... Anyway i was getting pretty frustrated because i coulndt find an MR2 that i liked. Then i was browsing at another website and they had a sexy black GT4 Celica ready to be imported that was hideously cheap. I called them up within 5 minutes of seeing this car and bought it :) When importing cars you pay the cost of the actual car upfront and the shipping, tax, compliance etc when it comes in. So it only cost me $2500 upfront for the GT4. I had started off with $11000 so i still had $8500 left over till the GT4 came in. I was thinking about putting it into shares or something till the GT4 arrived but i thought that this might be a bit risky. I was browing the importing site again a few weeks affter purchasing the GT4 and i started noticing how cheap Z32 300zxs were and this got me thinking.... If i buy a Z32 and bring it in i could get it on road for about $12,000AUS... they sell locally for $16,000. that would be a $4000 non taxible profit. So i found me a nice red Z32 300zx 5spd man, bilstein suspension, chipped, one owner vehicle jsut coming up for auction in 2 days time. I placed my bid and to my surprise... I won. I paid the $7500 for the FOB cost ands settled in for the wait for it to come in. 5 months later it arrived on my door step. It was a little bit dirty from the trip over here from japan but it was in pretty good condition still. I got a new battery installed the next day and took her for a quick spin around the park, grinning from ear to ear. The only problem i could see with the car was that while it could accelerate incredibly fast, the brakes sucked which made it kind of dangerous. Once i got the brakes remachined and new performance pads put on she stopped like a rock. I have to say even though i got my 300zx in purely to make a profit out of it, I am incredibly impressed with this car. Its outright ball tearing speed, and incredibly handling make for an awesome car. I cant say i was expecting the car to be this good. longlivetheZ 08-04-2005, 11:19 PM That's the best story I've heard on here so far. I guess you kept it? I'm moving to Austrailia...lol ExTrEmEDrIfT 08-05-2005, 02:17 AM hey i dont use many punctuations either , and if i do i put them in the wrong place lol .. im better now i think everyone here has said something about it ... yah so this sint a z story yet but it probably will be , im going to southern missouri in my z31 to visit my mom , because my aunt from california is flying out there for a week so im going to go visit.. hopefully everything goes good for me im going to drive her easy and go with it , i think it will be good .. Yaggus 08-05-2005, 05:18 AM That's the best story I've heard on here so far. I guess you kept it? I'm moving to Austrailia...lol Well if you like Jap imports, then Australia is the place to be.... aside from japan. R32 skyline GTSTs from about $7,000 AUS, R33 GTSTs $14,000AUS, Z32s, $14,000AUS. The only Japanese car that there is more of than over here would be the GTO (3000gt) next to none of them over here. Yes ive kept it do far. Its just goes so fast... I cant believe it. I did not expect it to be nearly this fast. Taking it on the track would be pretty awesome too. The suspension on my car is pretty insane. Its just too hard to sell it. longlivetheZ 08-05-2005, 02:43 PM Well if you like Jap imports, then Australia is the place to be.... aside from japan. R32 skyline GTSTs from about $7,000 AUS, R33 GTSTs $14,000AUS, Z32s, $14,000AUS. I LOVE japanese cars. I've been around them for a long time...them and Porsche...my dad's looking for his 4th Porsche and I'm looking for my 4th Z car. He's a Porsche guy...I'm a Z guy...:p Even though the first car I ever drove was one of his Porsche 944. I'd like to move to Japan, but the language barrier kinda freaks me out. The native language is english in aus, isn't it? I just wouldn't even know the first step to take in trying to move somewhere that far away... Yes ive kept it do far. Its just goes so fast... I cant believe it. I did not expect it to be nearly this fast. Taking it on the track would be pretty awesome too. The suspension on my car is pretty insane. Its just too hard to sell it. I don't blame you, man. I'd find it hard to sell too, I'm sure. DeleriousZ 08-05-2005, 08:38 PM they don't speak english in australia man... that's definitely not english.... hell it's almost as bad as scotland down there.. can't understand a freaking word they're saying lol longlivetheZ 08-06-2005, 12:37 AM lol...while typing that post, I almost put "english or something there about", but ended up deciding against it for whatever reason...lol...should have put it. Still has to be easier than Japanese. Yaggus 08-06-2005, 02:50 AM The native language is english in aus, isn't it? I just wouldn't even know the first step to take in trying to move somewhere that far away... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! Yes we do speak english in Australia :grinyes: I have no idea how to go about moving to Australia but i have heard it can be pretty hard to get into here. My girlfriend is South African and i remember her telling m that they were on the waiting list to get in for quite a while. But i have no to say if do get in here, its well worth it! they don't speak english in australia man... that's definitely not english.... hell it's almost as bad as scotland down there.. can't understand a freaking word they're saying lol HAHAHAHAHA!!! Strangely enough scottish accents are quite often confused with Australian accents by foreigners. I dont know why. We sound sooooooo different. Australian accents are easy to understand. I dont know what your all bitching about. :p k3smostwanted 08-06-2005, 05:26 AM hell, i cant understand some of the english in the United States. have you guys ever heard of "Larry the Cable Guy"...i swear some of the words that come out of his mouth were pulled right out of a cow's a**. then you have that ghetto slang that shouldnt even be considered a form or accent of english. just jibberish surrounded by a few words that actually pertain to the conversation. then you have Spanglish...its where half the words out of somebodies mouth will be in English and the other half will be in Spanish. this makes for a confusing conversation... "Wasup? Me llamo is Bob...me like thees chica ova herre. muy muy pretty!!!" we had a new employee hired today and i was chosen to give him a quick tour of the plant, mainly because i walked in late. anyways, this guy says to me, and i s**t you not..."how long you worked in dis hiya???, yall's be making dem stacks ova in da otha side???" needless to say i looked at him and said..."Would you like me to escort you to the restroom?" he said in return..."naw, why you say dat dere?" i just looked at him and shook my head and said "nevermind" eventhough i wanted to say...'so you can spit the rest of that s**t out of your dirty mouth'. well i thought it was funny and definitely made me feel like i actually accomplished something in my 13 years of school. longlivetheZ 08-06-2005, 04:08 PM I HATE people that talk like that. Some girl that used to work for me had her own damn language all together. I used to ask her all the time, "can you translate that for me, please?" I seriously had no idea what she was saying sometimes. It's just so tacky. stephenp 08-06-2005, 09:55 PM ok, so instead of actually periods, and capital letters, i use commas. Is it that hard to understand. Does this make it a bit easier. I have always used run ons, for the simple reason that all of it pertains to the previous statement (also i forgot i also use parenthasies). But i always thought it flowed nicely, and was rather easy to read. sorry from now on ill try harder. boy we all are quite criticle to. sorry for the inconvenience. stephenp 08-06-2005, 10:00 PM Boy im slow, i try and impress and still screw it up. I guess some of us where born with shitty writting skills. Talk about shitty i have to write a letter to a judge pleading my case. Am i screwwed or what. k3smostwanted 08-07-2005, 02:18 AM ok, so instead of actually periods, and capital letters, i use commas. Is it that hard to understand. Does this make it a bit easier. But ---> , but (conjuntions should not lead a sentence except in very rare occasions) now that is "criticle"!!! we just ask you to write so we can read. it flows nicely for you because you know what it is supposed to say. we have no idea most of the time. we simply ask you to proof read it and make sure we can read it. i dont mind reading a paragraph that has an insane amoutn of mispelled words and grammatical errors, but i am not going to sit and try to decipher something i would expect my 8 year old cousin to type. Boy im slow, i try and impress and still screw it up. I guess some of us where born with shitty writting skills. Talk about shitty i have to write a letter to a judge pleading my case. Am i screwwed or what. all of us are born with "shitty" writing skills or what i would call, none at all. it's something you just have to work at. we wouldnt criticize you if we didnt think you were able to type better. i hate to make most people feel bad but take it as "contructive criticism". just work on it... stephenp 08-07-2005, 06:59 PM Ok enough bout that. I stated that my 84 50th ann. may have posi. i worded it as they may have put it in..... I bought the car used, and what i was trying to say was that the previous owner may have put it in, who knows its used im the 4th owner besides dealer ships and im not going to hunt thaem down and find out. my car burns both tires there was one time when i was driving the car home from the lot dumped the clutch and went around a corner the inside tires spun until i straightened out then it gripped and went. i said it spun 1 tire maybe twice because im pretty sure at some point it probably did doubt it though it was always a nice launching slide or a beautiful donut also heres one for you the first time i tried to do a donut in it it just went in REALLY fast small circles it was pretty cool Driftertank 08-09-2005, 02:52 PM we had a new employee hired today and i was chosen to give him a quick tour of the plant, mainly because i walked in late. anyways, this guy says to me, and i s**t you not..."how long you worked in dis hiya???, yall's be making dem stacks ova in da otha side???" needless to say i looked at him and said..."Would you like me to escort you to the restroom?" he said in return..."naw, why you say dat dere?" i just looked at him and shook my head and said "nevermind" eventhough i wanted to say...'so you can spit the rest of that s**t out of your dirty mouth'. well i thought it was funny and definitely made me feel like i actually accomplished something in my 13 years of school. Quick, cheap fun: Ask someone with a southern accent to say the word "Oil." It'll come out "Owull" Either that, Or tell them you've never had grits before. They'll be shocked out of their wits , and lapse into gin-u-wine southspeak to tell you how great they "is". vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
