My 2000 S10 pickup ticks everytime i start it then will quit when heated up. I know its the lifters but is there anything i can do to stop this? Any oil additives? Thank you .....Dan

Oil additives are just a temp fix, and they might even cause future problems.

Try flushing the oil sump with a engine flush kit, then use a good quality oil filter and oil.
That might cure your lifter noise.

Ditto what Mr Overboard said.....

And the oil filter to use??.... is an AC/Delco, NAPA Gold or PureONE(Purolator).... why? ..... because they have good anti-drainback valves..... which is one possibility why you hear that ticking on start up; the oil has drained back from the valve gallery into the sump and until the life blood of your motor gets itself way up there, your motor will tick. Oil weight: use the recommended weight, usually 5W30 or maybe 10W30. Don't go "macho" and put in 10W40 or the old '60's fave 20W50. And for gosh sakes don't use a FRAM filter... they are, really, junk.
