I saw the above and had to do a double take.

New Volvo has gullwing doors.

Speaking of gullwing doors. Most people seem to love the DeLorean because of those doors, or because of Back To the Future. Not me.

I love the DeLorean because of her engineering and how she is constructed. I especially fond of her rear end :) I love that rear mounted engine and those tail lights.

Are you kidding? Sure, its a classic, but if for no other reason than having good styling and being so rare. They are WAAAAAAYYYYY underpowered.

The Delorean Motor Company (http://www.delorean.com) in Texas already does update them. They offer a kit which brings the power up to the originally planned 200hp, and they offer other upgrades such as suspension, lighting, audio, etc. :)

There have been other companies as well. There was a turbo kit offered at one point, though I'm not sure of the details. People have put V8s in the (usually Northstar), and there is a 6-speed 3-rotor DMC as well.

I work five miles from the company. I drive by it every day and I have stopped by there a couple of time. They usually have several DeLoreans parked out front. Inside they have a one without the body, which is really cool to see the inner-workings.

Well, the original company is gone, but this new company has a large portion of the original spares, and restores and/or upgrades DMC-12s. You can even order a "new" DMC-12 from them - with or without upgrades, with a rebuilt engine or a new engine, etc. Try out the configurator on their website - you can choose all the options you want and see pricing.

Of course, they're not cheap, but considering that they are essentially brand new DMC-12s for between $30,000-$40,000, and they were $27,000 back in 1981, it's not that bad of a deal. For comparison purposes, a base Porsche 911 cost about $29,000 in 1981 - now they're $69,000.
