Your biggest modeling flop

I was sitting around bored watching re-runs on comedy central and waiting for NCAA 06 to arrive from gamefly, when i came across a model I started a while back. This is not your average unfinished model.... this thing is a grade A, certified TURD. It's a model of a Dodge Daytona that I bought from someone here, I think it was thrown in free when I bought a couple kits off of Robert (JDMhotrod) a little over a year ago. I've started this model and restarted a few times, when Willimo decided to start his "Poser" contest.
I decided that this car would make a great entry and was going to build it to honor the douche bags that live around Birmingham who take their ragged out Cavilers, Sunbirds, daytonas, etc. and do their own half-assed body mods, then spray paint them flat black, slap a car club sticker on the rear window, and hit the parkway looking for a race. When I was in High school my town was flooded with these wieners.
All that I got out of this god awful modeling experience was relief that I was never dumb enough to try this crap on my 1:1, because I suck! I royally F'd this thing up, basically by slapping on a ton of epoxy putty. I was going to make it ULTRA wide body to over exaggerate some of the at home Bondo mods I've seen on some 1:1's, but I got frustrated with the putty not drying so I threw it back in the box. My plans also were to completely seal/smooth the doors and make it a targa top, I was going to use the Daytona's frontwheel drive V8 setup.

Here's pix of the abomination:

The good news is that I've almost completely quit drinking now and have never touched the epoxy putty since:loser:.

Now It's your turn, post pics of your modeling flops.

Aww... you've started this thread a few weeks too late... I've thrown mine a few weeks ago. I hate to look at it so much that I didn't bother to repair it. :grinno:

I've got plenty... :grinyes:. But here's one with little hope. It's what I called a "Civintegra," if you been here long enough you would've seen the progress thread... long with little progress. :icon16: Basically what it was supposed have, it doesn't. And the worst thing is, I sacrificed THREE of my models... and they weren't bad either. :(

Anyways, here are a few pics:

I don't see the end of the tunnel for this one, or for most of my models for that matter. All this needs is some motivation, which hasn't come around lately.

Holy shit Malcom! I remember that from the dark ages. I had completely forgotten about it since you took it out of your sig.

I'll have to think about which of my bad models is thw worst.

The Civintegra reminded me of my S2000 Coupe.
You guys should finish those!
Mine sat for months after I initially shaped it, and in about a week, I finished it.
Besides, the longer it sits, the more stable the putty is and less likely to shrink after it's painted... - Mark

Not got any pictures, but my SAS Skyline was a massive flop, and an expensive one too. Went through two kits, and also buggered up a resin SAS kit. My ideas where more then my skill level.

And when I was a kid, I had more flops then models on the shelf..!!

Let's see... i've got some on my side... but digicams weren't invented at the time i worked they :p

Boeing B-52: experimented too much with colors.... first i tried camo... looked like a stick sore thumb on everyonelse's eyes... then, without striping the paint off i decided to paint it with silver... using a BRUSH! (I should had given myself a headshot atm)

Toyota MR-2: my car kit ever... i decided to follow a friend (which i'm not so friend anymore) to leave the original plastic color of the body untouched... atm it seemed a good idea, but after i finished the model it didn't looked so good... so i decided to paint it... the final result was that the body looked marvelous, but the rest of the car not... paint all over parts that it wasnt suposed to be

Alfa Romeo 155 race car: i didn't mess this one so badly, paint was half ok, building was half ok too (my second car model) but everything went to hell when i decided to aply a small layer of clear coat over the decals... to make they look more shinny... but the decals weren't really dry and... please take i guess, i don't like to remenber my own stupidity over such nice model...

right now i have about 7 kits untouched... still gaining courage to start one of they :p

wow josh i wanna see that buddyclub ek4 done, thats what im probably going to do in the near future, buy a lot of revells and see what i can create on the bodywork, if it fails its only 10 bucks unlike tamiya models which are 20-50 dollars.

Well one recent build thats in the closet at the moment is my honda civic. A pillar broke, so im too lazy to strip the paint, also got more interested in other builds.

I have many. Usually resulting from botched body mods. The first i had was a mini. When i finished making as the intstructions suggested ihad no other models to do, so i ripped it apart and tried to do a widebody. This was my first attempt. I have since thrown it away.
Then came this Camaro. It took me ages of puttying and sanding over and over until i got bored with it and put it in the cupboard.

I hope that you built your next one just out of the box, looks like you have the basic idea of body mods. I'm sure that given a little time you will be able to finish this beauty. Too many people see all the stuff that people on AF can do with model cars and try to jump right in with extensive scratchbuilding and body mods, most of those threads never get past a few updates. I made my puttybomb pretty much on purpose, trying to poke fun at real life cars that have 100 pounds of bondo for body mods. I'm not really all that good at making bodykits or extensive body mods, I know that, which is why I don't really do all that much. Just little changess to make the model my own, like I would drive if it was real.

Feint Motion: Other than the budget drift supra and the widebody drift supra most of those look like they are off to a good start. Keep it up!

Honoturtle: I remember that one, If you ever finish it please post it up. I've always wanted to see it finished.

Scalemaster: What award did you win with your S2000 Coupe, wasn't it like ScaleAuto's car of the year? I rember seeing it in the mag last year.

hehe my biggest mistake was when building an F-15 fighter, for the weight in the nose i used the glue, i let stand over the night and when i found it next morning it was hmm how to explain it?.. more like the nose hade been in an frontal crash or something like that :D forgot that the glue melts the plastic! so now i know that do not use glue for counter weight! haha :D too bad that my cam is broken or you would get som nice pics :D
